As we wrap up the first quarter of the new financial year, it’s a great time to reflect on the momentum we’ve built and the milestones we’ve already achieved. From major shutdowns to global collaboration, our teams continue to deliver with precision, commitment and care.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the CD3 Shutdown Project for BHP in Port Hedland. The shutdown was completed injury-free and ahead of schedule - a fantastic result. The standout moment was the successful lift of a 507-tonne twin cell using our 1600t crawler crane, the “Rubino.” Achieving 95% crane utilisation at a 37.5-metre radius, this lift marked a major step in replacing aging infrastructure. With 45 supervisors and a workforce of 445 people, this was a massive team effort. Thanks to everyone involved for your co-ordination, commitment and delivery. This is an outstanding example of what we can achieve together.
Over at Mondium, the CLAHDO project continues to evolve with increasing scope and complexity. We’re proud to be delivering the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of Rio Tinto’s Autonomous Laboratory and Sample Facility. Melchor has nearly completed the prep cell building concrete slab, and we’re on track for handover to the SMPEI team this month. Steelwork detailing and fabrication with Inteforge in China is progressing well, with the first shipment of five arriving at Cape Lambert in August and the second already en-route. The collaboration across Cape Lambert, Perth, Brisbane and China has been exceptional. Thank you for your agility and focus.
Inteforge continues to play a vital role in our global operations. In August, we held our first all-day production meeting in Vung Tau, Vietnam, bringing together 36 attendees from Vietnam, China and Australia. It was a valuable opportunity to connect face-to-face, share updates across current projects, and strengthen alignment across our support teams. I attended alongside Mike Brady from our Perth office. A visit to the workshops was a key highlight and it was great to see the energy and engagement of our team firsthand.
We are progressing well on the Eneabba Rare Earths Refinery project, with the Inteforge team in Vietnam playing a key role in the supply and fabrication of structural steelwork and pipe racks. The first shipment, around 1,000 tonnes of the estimated contract 6,000 tonnes of structural steel, has successfully departed for Perth’s Henderson Port. The second shipment with approximately 600 tonnes combining both structural steel and the first Pipe Rack Truss assemblies is due a few weeks later. It’s great to see this major contract gaining momentum and showcasing the strength of our international fabrication capability.
Our contribution to this project, and others like Prominent Hill, continues to demonstrate the value of our vertically integrated model across EC Projects, Inteforge and Melchor.
Following a contract extension in July, Inteforge has secured a two-year renewal of its master goods agreement with Origin Energy, continuing its long-standing role in supplying wellsite equipment for Australia Pacific LNG in Queensland. Since 2015, Inteforge has delivered an impressive 2,035 skids and wellhead equipment units - an achievement that speaks volumes about the team’s reliability and capability.
We’re looking forward to hearing more from the Inteforge team on the high-volume skid manufacturing contract now underway as part of this agreement which is already shaping up to be a significant contributor to our fabrication pipeline.
And finally, a shout-out to our emerging talent - three engineering graduates from our Graduate Forum are expected to be signed off by the end of September, securing placements within our business. A huge congratulations also goes to past Monadelphous graduate Eden Lovett, EC Project Engineer from the BHP WAIO CD3 Replacement project, who has been awarded the inaugural Danny Raschiatore Award for 2025! This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to Eden’s dedication and contribution to the project. It’s fantastic to see the next generation stepping into their careers with us and already making such a significant impact.
We’ve started this financial year strong, and it’s all thanks to the consistent effort and dedication of our people. Keep pushing forward, keep supporting one another and, most importantly, stay safe.
Until next time,
Russ
