A message from your leaders, Apr '23

April has been another pleasing month, in which we have continued our positive safety performance, project teams making milestones and some new exciting work hot on our heels.

On safety, overall performance has been solid, however, it would be remiss of us to not mention an incident that could have had serious potential impact. While no one was hurt, a 50kg bracket fell 17 metres into an exclusion zone. This is an important reminder about the high-risk industry that we work in and why it is crucial that we stay focussed, look out for each other, and follow the robust processes and procedures in place. We have completed an investigation on the incident and have several learnings that have been put into place. 

We have made progress across the business on the next steps of our Employee Engagement Survey you participated in.  At Monadelphous it is important for us to hear you, to listen to what you have told us and ensure we take action to continue to ensure that Monadelphous is a truly great company to work for and an employer of choice. After analysing your feedback, we have identified several key themes to focus our action on, including workplace flexibility, rosters, career development, communications, reward & recognition, employee benefits and how we foster a respectful and inclusive workplace. We will be sharing what these actions and changes will be in due course.

On the projects front

• Iron Bridge for Fortescue Metals Group – progress and productivity remain on schedule, completions in both SMPE&I have been progressing well. From an SMP perspective we have commenced the demobilisation process, during this period recruitment have been visiting site to ensure we place people were possible and identify people who would like a break before embarking on a new project. Pleasingly we have been able to fix up most of our resources into other parts of the business in the blue- and white-collar space. Works at the canning pump station and the overland pipeline have been completed, a great effort by all involved on each aspect of the project. We further sent a small scaffolding team to support Port Hedland works for FMG and provided commissioning assistance from an SPME&I perspective, again showing the flexibility and the preferred skillset that our customer calls on when required.
• Mines Services Area (MSA) project for Talison Lithium – we’re approaching 60% completion, maintaining progress where we should be. There’s still a lot of work to get done, but we’re tracking ahead well to completion. Over the next month the focus is on completion of the HME building and the boilermaker workshop.

Tendering activity remains strong with a number of post tender discussions taking place, we have secured two shutdowns at Tom Price and hopefully will have other good news from a new project perspective in the next few weeks.

We’ve been busy out in the community recently. Giving back to important causes where we can. We participated in our fourth Perth Homeless Support Group Sunday Outreach, volunteering time on a Sunday morning to hand out necessities to people experiencing homelessness in Perth. We also partnered with the Victoria Park Men’s Shed to fund a program to support retired veterans and first responders – read more about that in this edition here.
