A message from your leaders, Feb '22

Written by Communications | 14 Feb 2022

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2022. We hope everyone enjoyed some well-deserved time with their family and friends over the holiday period. Everyone’s full steam ahead again, and we’re geared up for another big year.

The current COVID-19 situation is testing everyone, the environment is rapidly changing and there continues to be an impact to us all at some level. We want to firstly say a big thank you to you all for persevering through it and supporting each other. The level of effort you’ve all put in and continue to put in is appreciated to keep the business running as close to usual as possible. Thank you for doing the right things, for getting vaccinated, for following the changing safety protocols and the increased travel time required for pre flight testing regimes. We also want to recognise those of you who’ve been away from home for extensive times periods. It’s been a huge effort and we’re managing it the best we can.

Alongside the pressure of COVID-19, we’ve managed to stay safe across our projects. We have however seen a trend in hand and finger injuries, which is a key focus area for us as what we’re seeing is mostly minor injuries that could be avoided with more focused risk assessments.

PROJECT UPDATES

On the project front we’ve had a big few months; we’ve hit a lot of big milestones completing a number of projects and fast approaching completion on others.

BHP, Olympic Dam

  • The SCM21 project team successfully delivered the largest and most complex shutdown campaign at BHP’s Olympic Dam mine in its 32 years of operation. One of the most challenging projects with an ambitious timeframe, delivered in a COVID environment in which almost every member of the team experienced an isolation/quarantine period! An exceptional effort – well done to everyone involved.
  • The acid buffer tanks work continues with completion due in the second quarter of 2022

Rio Tinto, West Turner Syncline 2 (with Mondium)

  • Following issues over the Christmas period we mobilised a team and got the job done, in addition to completing the January shutdown ahead of schedule
  • Thank you to the entire Mondium and Monadelphous team, we worked successfully as an integrated team to deliver one of the largest construction contracts in our history
  • WTS2 has been handed over to Rio and production continues in line with expectations

Rio Tinto, Gudai-Darri

  • We’ve now increased our team to approximately 600 people, and we are pushing hard for first ore next month
  • Delivery on Gudai-Darri has been excellent, we responded to our customers needs, solved their problems and have grown our work scope as a result

Albemarle, Kemerton Lithium Plant

  • With Train 1 delivered successfully, we’re now closing in on completion of Train 2 in the second quarter of 2022
  • We added the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) scope to our existing structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) contract which is another fantastic example of our reputation as a trusted, high quality contractor our customers can rely on

Talison Lithium, Greenbushes (with Mondium)

  • The Greenbushes tailings retreatment plant project is another demonstration of an integrated Mondium engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project delivered and handed over successfully to our customer

BHP WAIO Panel Projects

  • Despite some challenges with weather, the Jimblebar Surplus Water project completed construction and is now well into commissioning, progressing well for a March completion

BHP, South Flank Inflow

  • We remain onsite at South Flank Inflow continuing to support optimisation work with BHP which is currently expected to be completed in the middle of the year

While many of our projects have reached completion, or near completion, the pipeline of work in our core markets remains strong. We were awarded two major shutdowns with Rio Tinto in Tom Price which we’re currently planning and will be undertaken in June and August.

Tendering is busy, we’re bidding a number of major projects in the iron ore and lithium space and we remain optimistic about our future order book.

Let’s deliver another big year together, delivering what we promise for our customers, while keeping ourselves and each other safe.

Regards,

Paul and Brett
