Barrow Island in motion

Projects
2 Minute Read

Situated at the heart of Chevron's Greater Gorgon development, the Barrow Island Above Ground Infrastructure (AGI) Project continues to achieve remarkable milestones as we progress toward our 2026 completion target. Since commencing in November 2023, the project team has delivered significant achievements across multiple scopes of work, underscoring the expertise and dedication of the entire workforce.

Milestones Achieved at the CSUB Area

The Compressor Substation (CSUB) area has witnessed significant progress, with several critical installations successfully completed:

  • B8351 and B8352 STATCOM buildings: Both static synchronous compensators were installed, which will ultimately enhance the reliability and stability of the electrical network.
  • B8351 and B8352 FFC systems: These Fin Fan Coolers were precisely positioned to meet rigorous standards.
  • Access to the B8350 foundation: Commenced as per the schedule, laying the groundwork for upcoming installations.
  • 750t crane establishment: The mobilisation of this heavy-lift capability represents a major logistical achievement, setting the stage for future large-scale installations.

These achievements reflect a seamless collaboration between engineering, logistics, and site teams, all working cohesively under strict quarantine protocols to protect Barrow Island’s unique ecosystem.

Progress across other areas on site

The momentum extends beyond the CSUB area, with notable accomplishments in other project zones:

  • B8300 Extension Installation: A critical structural addition, the B8300 extension was installed with precision, contributing to the overall functionality of the facility.
  • Successful GIS HV Testing: High-voltage testing of Gas Insulated Switchgear in B8300 was completed, ensuring operational integrity.
  • B8309A Building Installation: The building was positioned flawlessly, showcasing the team's commitment to excellence in greenfield installations.
  • 6.6kV Shutdown and Integration: The B8309 area underwent a successful 6.6kV system shutdown, with the A24, A25, and A26 tiers installed and fully tied in.
  • 690VAC Comeca Board Extension: This complex electrical enhancement was completed with no impact on ongoing operations, reflecting meticulous planning and execution.

Teamwork and innovation

These achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment of the site team. Through meticulous planning, clear communication, and a steadfast focus on safety, the workforce has upheld the highest standards of excellence.

Innovative techniques and equipment, such as self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) and high-capacity cranes, have played a pivotal role in advancing the project. The integration of these technologies has allowed us to navigate logistical challenges efficiently while maintaining our commitment to environmental compliance.

Looking ahead

As we move into 2025, our attention once again shifts to the CSUB area, where we are preparing for the installation of the B8350 Switchroom. This critical building will serve as the backbone of the power supply hub for Jansz offshore facilities.

The installation of transformers and power conditioning equipment will mark a defining stage in the project, symbolising a transition toward completion. With the groundwork meticulously prepared, the team is poised to tackle this next phase with the same dedication and expertise demonstrated thus far.

Every milestone reached reaffirms the strength of our team and the significance of this project in delivering enduring value to our client and stakeholders. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved and look forward to sharing further updates as the project advances toward completion.
