Located in the heart of Victoria Park, the Men’s Shed is much more than a workshop. It's a place where local men come together to connect, learn new skills, share knowledge and build lasting friendships.
From retired tradies and scientists to professionals, the Shed creates a sense of belonging through hands-on projects, practical learning and camaraderie.
Following Monadelphous' support last year to help members build much-needed timber storage racks, the partnership has continued with a donation of new tools to replace equipment lost during a series of burglaries.
Late last year and earlier this year, the Shed faced a difficult setback when three separate break-ins resulted in the loss of many essential tools. For an organisation that operates on modest means and relies heavily on volunteer contributions, replacing the equipment presented a significant challenge.
Victoria Park Men’s Shed Treasurer, Mark Eichorn, said the donation came at a time when it was needed most.
"Many of our gardening tools were lost and because our insurance excess is so high, it wasn't economical to make a claim each time. This donation has enabled us to replace those essential tools," Mark said.
The new tools will play an important role in maintaining the Shed's gardens, supporting community projects and ensuring the space remains welcoming and well-equipped for members. More importantly, they will help keep people connected through meaningful activities and shared experiences.
"The new tools give our members access to reliable, modern equipment that allows them to work safely and efficiently.
"They will help us maintain our gardens, support community projects and ensure everyone has a better experience at the Shed," Mark said.
While the practical benefits are immediate, Mark said the value of the donation reaches much further than the tools themselves.
"This support will have a lasting impact. Our current members will immediately benefit from the new equipment, while future members will enjoy a well-resourced Shed that encourages learning, participation and community involvement."
For many members, the Men’s Shed provides far more than a place to work on projects. It offers opportunities to stay active, make new friends, share experiences and find a renewed sense of purpose.
"Working together gives us a sense of purpose, encourages friendships and helps reduce social isolation. Support from Monadelphous provides more than just tools; it strengthens the community we've built and helps ensure it continues to thrive," Mark said.
