There has been great progress on the early works and planning for BHP’s Car Dumper 3 Replacement Project at Nelson Point in Port Hedland, Western Australia. This stage of the project is well underway with completion expected to take place by middle of this year.
The second stage of the project will include the structural, mechanical, and piping works associated with the Car Dumper 3 replacement, with work expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
It is a large and exciting piece of work for the team, and we checked in with Project Manager, Brent Jones to get his take on how it is all going.
“The project is building good momentum, we’re currently working through items such as procurement, lead times, securing the right equipment, cranes and the likes. The start of any project is a crucial time to make sure you set up your team for success,”
“We recently had an early works shutdown as part of the initial investigation scope, which went well. We expect to have some more team members mobilised on site over the coming months. Getting boots on ground and the buzz it generates on site, can’t be understated,” said Brent.
The project will expect to reach peak numbers at around two hundred on site per shift – we look forward to watching the project continue to unfold.
