That’s exactly what happened at Eastern Ridge when Colm Corcoran and Sean Byrne stepped up in a situation that could have ended very differently. While working on site, Colm and Sean noticed a member of the public who had wandered through the bush and onto the Ore Body 32 mine site, several kilometres from the gatehouse and any public road. The individual was severely dehydrated and disoriented. They acted immediately, guiding the person to a shaded area, providing water, and raising an emergency with BHP. The Eastern Ridge Emergency Services Officer (ESO) arrived shortly after, administered first aid, and transported the individual to Newman Hospital for treatment. Unbeknown to the team at the time, the person’s family, along with police and site security, had been searching for them around Newman for some time, concerned for their welfare. Thanks to Colm and Sean’s quick thinking and care, the situation ended safely. Both employees were recognised with Tinny Time awards for their actions, which perfectly reflect the behaviours that make our culture strong - helping out, speaking up, and looking out for others. Construction Manager Mark Wheldon summed it up best: “This is what Tinny Time is all about. Colm and Sean’s actions demonstrate the behaviours that keep our culture strong and our community safe, by acting quickly, showing care, and making a real difference,” he said. Every day, Tinny Time moments happen that align to a Tinny Time pillar- helping out, checking in, speaking up, and owning it.
