A fitting role for Amanda

Written by Communications | 31 Mar 2023

Amanda Beasley’s journey with our New South Wales operations started back in 2007, when she joined Monadelphous as a first-year apprentice fitter.

After having a break in 2012 when her two children came along, she re-joined our team as a fitter in 2017 and has recently been promoted to Supervisor.  She is currently working on her first shutdown as a Supervisor on the shovel shutdown at Mount Thorley Warkworth.

Amanda said that stepping up to the role has given her the ability to implement improvements quickly.

“When I see something that needs to be done or changes that can potentially make our jobs easier and safer, I am now in a good position to make it happen,” she said.

“For example there was an opportunity to reduce manual handling by using a set of rollers rather than pushing heavy materials along the ground so I was able to put this in place, also meaning we aren’t lifting materials off the ground to a height.”

Amanda said that the Monadelphous team has been a great environment to work in as she has a highly supportive crew around her.

“The best part of the job is that there is always something different and plenty of opportunity for progression and to develop my skills,” she said.

Although she is yet to meet a female fitter, Amanda said it would be great to see more females choosing to get into this type of work.

“It can be tough work and you do need to be thick-skinned at times but the most important thing is having a supportive team and people you can talk to.

“We have a great crew here where you feel genuinely appreciated based on the work you do and what you achieve.”

Congratulations on the well deserved promotion Amanda!
