G’day everyone!

I wanted to kick off by taking a moment to thank you all for your contribution and hard work throughout what has been another big year across our operations.

As we reflect on the past 12 months, there have been a few standout moments.

We have continued to grow, with our workforce in the Eastern Region peaking at 1,461 employees this year. It is great to see that we have a significant number of long-term employees, with more than 400 team members having been with us for over five years and of those more than 200 who have been with us for more than 10 years.

We were recognised at the 2023 M&IS Safety and Innovation Awards where our MWJV team in PNG took out Best Overall Safety Performance and our team in Gladstone were awarded the Most Innovative Operation. Our Gladstone workshop not only took out the Best Innovation for the heater cassette removal, but this initiative also won the overall MD Safety and Innovation Award.

Outside of Monos, our Gladstone team were also recognised with the 2023 Health and Safety in Welding Award at the Queensland and Northern Territory Weld Australia Excellence Awards for their outstanding efforts to mitigate potential health impacts from nickel welding fumes and particles.

Finally, we were awarded a Queensland Government Work Well Award in the category of ‘Best demonstrated healthy and safe work design’, recognising our team at the Mt Isa Acid Plant for their safety innovation, “The Armadillo” which you can read more about in this edition. Congratulations to all involved for the well-deserved awards.

Excitingly, we have continued to build our rail maintenance capability in New South Wales throughout the year and the Rail business will now sit within our Eastern Region portfolio. This integration will provide significant benefits and long-term growth opportunities for our rail operations into the future and allow us to be situated closer to our clients and their sites.

This year we also welcomed BMC into our business, further strengthening our capability in specialist high voltage and instrumentation installation, calibration and maintenance services, as well as our presence on the east coast. Well done to everyone involved in making it a seamless transition.

Thank you all for another stellar year. Wishing you a very happy and safe festive season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in 2024.
