In the Loop

G’day everyone,

Late last year, you may remember being invited to provide feedback on what it’s like to work at Monadelphous, in our first Group-wide employee survey in over a decade. In this edition of In the Loop, you can read a summary of what was said in the survey.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to give you an overview of what our Eastern Region team said. As the survey was managed by an independent research agency to ensure everything remained completely anonymous, please remember that, while I have a high-level overview, I haven’t seen – and will not see – your individual feedback.

More than 300 of our team took the opportunity to participate, adding to 1,700 others across Monadelphous – thank you to everyone who took part. Below are some of the key findings:

  • Our team’s satisfaction rating was 6.9 out of 10, which is on par with the rest of the Company. Our professional and office-based employees were more satisfied than our tradespeople and site-based employees.
  • You said we are really strong in the areas of safety and values / culture, which was pleasing to see.
  • The areas you think we should look at improving included communication, remuneration and systems and processes.

Overall, our team’s feedback is well aligned with Monadelphous company-wide feedback and, for me personally, there were no real surprises, suggesting we are heading in the right direction.

At this stage, I don’t have the specific actions that will result from our 2022/23 Employee Survey to share with you, however some commitments will be released shortly, to help address some of the areas you said you’d like us to look at improving. Your feedback is also helping to shape our 2023/24 Eastern Region Strategy, which we are currently in the process of developing as part of our annual strategic planning process.

Meanwhile, this month we celebrated International Women’s Day across the business, an important day to reflect on what equity means and the role we all have to play in achieving an inclusive workplace. We also celebrated Harmony Week and the cultural diversity we have within our teams. You can see some photos from both International Women’s Day and Harmony Week in this newsletter.

Also in this edition, meet Amanda Beasley, who has recently stepped up to a Supervisor role and is working on the shovel shutdown at Mount Thorley Warkworth.  You can also read about the outstanding job our Mount Arthur team has done addressing a challenge for our customer and delivering a solution that will support improved safety outcomes.

Enjoy reading and please keep yourself and others safe.
