In the Loop

A sweet start for Georgia

Written by Communications | 31 May 2023

Meet Georgia Sweetapple, a graduate Project Engineer who joined us back in February, working with our team in Mount Thorley, New South Wales.

Originally from Brisbane, Georgia studied a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and went on to complete a Master of Engineering at the University of Queensland.

We caught up with Georgia to hear about her experience so far and what advice she had for other soon to be graduates.

Georgia said her experience has given her invaluable exposure to site environments and to a different side of engineering.

“Working on site can be fast-paced and challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding,” she said.

Georgia said she appreciates the hands-on experience and the opportunity to see the impact of her work firsthand, as well as Monadelphous’ emphasis on quality and safety.

“It’s great to be part of a team that is working towards a common goal and to be able to collaborate with colleagues from different backgrounds and areas of expertise.

“I feel I am on track for a successful career at Monadelphous as I am being given the tools and support I need to succeed, and I’m grateful for the emphasis that is put on professional development and continuous learning.

Georgia’s advice for recent graduates, or anyone new to the industry, is to stay open-minded, be willing to ask questions and take on new challenges.

“Take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow within your role, and to seek out feedback and guidance from your colleagues and mentors.”

She said you have an opportunity to work on diverse projects in different locations, which makes for an incredibly exciting and rewarding experience.

“There is a large amount of support and training available and the exposure to different areas of the business allows for a well-rounded understanding of Monadelphous and its operations.”

In her spare time, Georgia also wears the hat of National Students Manager for Spark Engineering Camp, an organisation that provides students from non-traditional backgrounds, who may face barriers towards tertiary education, with experiences to grow and discover STEM pathways.
