Colleen is a Cleaning Supervisor working in our Mount Arthur team in New South Wales and she is part of a growing movement of women challenging stereotypes and establishing careers in leadership roles on-site.
Having worked at several mine sites throughout her career, Colleen has found that the workforce is welcoming more and more women to the industry which she says is fantastic to see.
"There are endless opportunities out there for women in the workforce these days," Colleen said.
“I feel as though women have a good crack at doing just about anything we put our minds to, so they should go for it. If you aspire to be an electrician on a mine site, you can absolutely do that."
As a supervisor, Colleen said her what she loves about the role is the collaborative spirit within her team.
"Before I started here as a supervisor late last year, I was a Trainer and Assessor, so I had some experience with leadership and working with people. Working in this role, I am now managing a team of people which can be challenging at times but it’s also very rewarding. I really enjoy that we can all collaborate and work as a team,” she said.
For Colleen, the essence of her career lies in the simple satisfaction of seeing things cleaned to perfection.
"I love the satisfaction you get from having something sparkling clean," she shares.
"Even before working in this field, it's always just been my passion. I love the end result of seeing something that has just been cleaned well."
But it is not just personal satisfaction that keeps Colleen going, she knows the impact her work has on others.
"People enjoy coming into a clean workspace, so we often get compliments on our work, and that's a good feeling," she said.
Originally from Sydney, Colleen has made a home in the Hunter Valley, dedicating the last 15 years to her passion for cleaning, a journey she hopes to continue.
“My goal is to further develop my leadership skills and continue to grow within this field and in the industry,” she said.
