In support of HunterWise

1 Minute Read

Last year we signed off on a new sponsorship with HunterWISE in New South Wales, supporting female participation in STEM.

In partnership with the University of Newcastle and sponsors, HunterWiSE provides opportunities for women and girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to connect, collaborate and share experiences.

During the ten-week program, students identify an issue in their local community and work together using STEM to come up with a solution.

The Monadelphous program champion is Soheil Tahmasbi, Project Engineer in the Eastern Region. She said the program helps to encourage girls to get into STEM subjects.

“We really like the practical and community focused approach this program takes,” Soheil said.

“It uses STEM to provide solutions to real world problems, making it practical and approachable to young people, which can sometimes be a challenge when encouraging engagement in STEM subjects,” Soheil said.

The funds provided by Monadelphous will go towards funding HunterWise activities throughout the year.  We look forward to sharing more updates soon.
