Monadelphous has been recognised for outstanding commitment to health and safety, with our Gladstone Operations team picking up the 2023 Health and Safety in Welding Award at Queensland and Northern Terrritory Weld Australia Excellence Awards.

The annual awards are a big deal in the welding industry, celebrating the high calibre of work by local welders, fabricators and industry educators.

The Gladstone team were specifically awarded for the measures they put in place to mitigate potential health impacts from nickel welding fumes and particles.

HSE Coordinator Kellie Davidson said that the goal was to put in place a robust health and safety program aligned to both Queensland and National Health Monitoring Guidelines and WHS regulations.

“To reduce the effects of nickel welding fumes, we took a proactive approach which included extensive initial and ongoing training, proactive health monitoring, and investment in first class protective equipment,” she said.

Kellie, together with Workshop Coordinator Matthew McKay led the initiatives on-site and were there to accept the award, as well as Quality & Welding Manager Mark Potts, Manager – Gladstone Operations Cameron Hausler and Operations Manager David Slack-Smith.

Mark Potts said the team’s strong, interdependent safety culture was highlighted by their humble reaction to the award.

“The team didn’t see their initiatives as outstanding or necessarily worthy of an award, instead just part of the way they approach things,” he said.

“Our attitude is that we are always looking for safety improvements and this commitment is really second nature.”

According to Weld Australia CEO, Geoff Crittenden, the awards shone a light on the remarkable talents of welders and fabricators across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

“Weld Australia is thrilled to celebrate both businesses and individuals who are making waves in welding through their dedication to quality, safety and innovation," he said.

Congratulations to the Gladstone Workshop team for the well-deserved award.
