MWJV masters internalisation of Hot Tap Services

Written by Communications | 25 Jul 2023

Monadelphous Worley Joint Venture (MWJV) has achieved an impressive milestone by successfully internalising hot tap services, showcasing their commitment to expanding capabilities and delivering comprehensive solutions to their valued customer, Santos.

The strategic decision to bring this service in-house has resulted in streamlined operations and increased control over the process, eliminating the need for external contractors to travel from Australia to PNG to perform the services.

SMP Superintendent Brendan McNamara said that internalising hot tapping had been on the radar for a number of years.

“We had a window of opportunity to organise external training in Melbourne before the next scheduled delivery of hot tap services, and within that timeframe we were able to develop hot tap procedures, SWMS, pre and post operational checklist, and comprehensive VOC process including practical and theory.

“We recognised the importance of flexibility and control by internalising this process, this achievement not only expands MWJV's service capabilities but also creates opportunities for career development and progression within our workforce,” he said.

Santos have expressed their satisfaction with MWJV's internalisation efforts, recognising the value of their comprehensive services and their ability to provide greater flexibility of services on site.

Future opportunity includes sourcing a smaller drilling machine to eliminate the need for a scaffolding deck and potential to expand this service within the M&IS Eastern Region Business Unit.

With their expertise, innovation, and commitment to excellence, MWJV is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of their clients and continue to excel in the Oil and Gas industry.
