In a significant milestone for Monadelphous, an all-national work team, which included Quality Control and Supervisor roles, successfully completed the ADD1/ADT4 Flowline Repairs project for Santos in the Southern Highlands region of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

This achievement highlights not only the growing expertise and capabilities of PNG nationals in supervisory and quality control roles within the company, but also the inspiring personal growth and development they have undergone.

Quality and Welding Manager, Mark Potts said that the success of the ADD1/ADT4 project underscores the importance of Monadelphous’ vision to train and integrate PNG nationals into supervisory, HSEQ, engineering, and management positions.

“By empowering national supervision to manage critical projects, we can ensure high-quality project outcomes,” he said.

“Key to this is the national workforce's deep understanding of their environment and cultural customs.

“The team are intimately familiar with the terrain, weather patterns, and potential obstacles that may arise during the installation process. Supported by national supervisors who possess managerial expertise and knowledge of the workforce, a cohesive team can effectively navigate project complexities with precision and efficiency.”

National supervisors play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the workforce in the Southern Highlands. These supervisors, who are well-versed in local workforce dynamics, communicate project expectations, allocate resources, and address any issues that may arise during the project. Their on-the-ground presence ensures quality standards are upheld, safety protocols are adhered to, and progress towards project milestones are closely monitored and managed.

Monadelphous has laid out long-term plans for developing individuals in the Quality field. Several PNG National Quality Control personnel have recently completed Diplomas in Welding Inspection (IIW IWI B), using these newly acquired skills to monitor critical welding activities in the field.

Involving skilled and unskilled PNG labour along with PNG supervision is also part of Monadelphous' commitment to the community's economic development. Entrusting local labour and supervisors with project management responsibilities helps to stimulate the local economy, creating job opportunities, and fostering skill development.

Mark Potts said that the recent success on the ADD1/ADT4 project demonstrates the potential that comes from investing in local talent.

“Our commitment to ensuring that PNG nationals are at the forefront of our operations supports a future where local talent continues to thrive and contribute to our collective success,” he said.
