The recent shutdown at Loy Yang B Power Station in Traralgon, Victoria, has marked a significant achievement for Monadelphous in collaboration with Alinta Energy.

Our team at BMC successfully completed the outage, which focused on inspections, repairs, and modifications to the unit 2 boiler, draft plant, and cooling plant.

Emma Baptist, Operations Manager, detailed the project's scope and highlighted the comprehensive range of services provided.

"Our team managed all aspects of the project, including scaffolding, fabrication, welding, refractory maintenance, insulation, rope access, ballast tiling, cranage, blast/paint, and electrical work," she said.

The outage was completed on schedule, with zero injuries and quality issues. BMC has received positive feedback from Alinta Energy regarding the team’s performance and delivery of the project.

Planning for the outage began in December 2023 and commenced mid-April 2024, reaching a peak workforce of 237 individuals, supported by a subcontractor workforce.

Several milestones were achieved during this project, including a crucial mechanical completion milestone on 1 May 2024.

"The contract included performance KPIs related to safety, schedule, cost and quality, which we pleasingly performed well against," Emma said.

The successful completion of this outage has strengthened Monadelphous' relationship with Alinta Energy, one of BMC's key clients, and paved the way for future opportunities at Loy Yang B.

Reflecting on the project, Emma praised the collaborative environment and the alignment in values between Monadelphous and Alinta Energy.

"We enjoy working with Alinta's site team, as they share our emphasis on safety as well as our positive culture," she said.
