Leadership Updates

What an incredible year it’s been for the Heavy Lift team! 2025 has been our biggest year yet in terms of total hours worked in the field and a real milestone in the history of our business unit.

I recently visited our facilities at Port Hedland and Karratha as well as active sites across the Pilbara including CD3, Eliwana, Solomon, Pluto 1, Karratha Gas Plant and Project Ceres. Seeing our teams in action, delivering for our customers, was fantastic. The work we do – building new assets, upgrading existing facilities and keeping them running – is critical to the success of our clients and the industry. It was also incredible to see our impressive fleet of equipment in the field, including the Rubino, our 1600t crawler crane at Port Hedland.

I have been impressed by our teams in Victoria Park and Bibra Lake supporting the business with HSE, tendering, planning and mobilisation, maintenance and overall management of the Heavy Lift business unit. We really do have an amazing team of people that all work together and I’m proud of the way everyone works collaboratively to keep us moving forward.

As we head into the final weeks of the year, I want to reinforce our Finish Strong, Start Stronger message. This is about staying focused and driving towards incident and injury-free operations as we approach the holiday season. We know this time of year can bring distractions, but we have demonstrated in the past that when we make the extra effort to re-focus, we can overcome this end of year trend and drive our safety performance in the right direction.

For Heavy Lift, our Finish Strong focus areas are:

  • Line of Fire Risk
  • Hands Off Rigging
  • Heat & Hydration
  • Mental Wellbeing

Please take the time to think through each task and how you can keep yourself and your teammates safe every day.

Looking after your mental health is just as important as staying physically safe. I want everyone to feel happy, healthy and supported – because when we’re in a good headspace, we do our best work.

I encourage you to check out the range of resources available to you and your family. Please remember that use of these resources is free and completely confidential. You’ll find them on our wellbeing page

I’ve had overwhelming feedback from colleagues who’ve used our EAP services that they’ve found them incredibly helpful. So please, make to use these resources if you ever need support. They’re there for you.

In October, I attended the EC Leadership Conference. One of the highlights for me was seeing the Heavy Lift team recognised for their outstanding achievements. Congratulations to Corey French and Luke Thompson, who both won EC HSE Awards for 2025. Your commitment to safety sets a great example for all of us.

We also scooped the pool with the 2024/25 EC Innovation Awards, taking out both the top prize and the runner-up title. A huge congratulations to the winning team from Alevro who were recognised for their work on the LNG Jack Down Compressor System, a brilliant example of innovation driving smarter, safer ways of working.

And a big well done to members from our Heavy Lift team, who were recognised as runners-up for their Kemerton Loads and Lifting Innovations, including the Dome Shelter Lifting and the 15-tonne Lifting Frame with Forklift Tie-In Points. These practical solutions show what’s possible when we tackle challenges with fresh eyes and a determination to do things better.

The Alevro team have had quite the run of success this year, picking up two awards at the 2025 CICA Lift of the Year Awards in Brisbane. They took out Project of the Year for their outstanding work on the Pluto Train 2 Project, and they also scored the People’s Choice Award, a fantastic endorsement from peers across the lifting industry. These wins really show what Heavy Lift is all about – innovation, excellence and setting the bar higher for the whole industry.

I couldn’t be prouder of what this team has accomplished. Your hard work, creativity and commitment continue to raise the standard and inspire others across our business and beyond.

Thank you all for making 2025 such a fantastic year. Please stay safe – at work and at home – over the holiday season. I’m looking forward to working with you all in what promises to be an exciting and successful 2026.

Daniel
