Leadership Updates
3 Minute Read

Welcome team to the June edition of On the Hook.

The 2022/23 financial year has been strong for the Heavy Lift business unit, in fact our strongest yet, positioning us well for increased growth over the years to come. We have seen outstanding project performance across our business delivered by our operational, maintenance and support teams and an enormous effort in tendering and business development. These results are all down to the exceptional efforts and commitment of everyone each and every day to deliver for Monadelphous, the team and our customers - I sincerely thank you for this.

We have been busy over the last few months setting the Engineering Construction division strategic plan, and the Heavy Lift business plan and budgets to map out our key focus areas and goals for FY24. These plans focus on sustainable growth, attracting and developing our people and further embedding our culture of zero harm. Our growth and HSE plans incorporate positioning to enter emerging renewable markets and contributing to Net Zero – this means more exciting opportunities for us all to work on too. I will share more details on this next month.

We celebrate NAIDOC Week this week (2-9 July 2023) to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Indigenous people. There’s a range of activities happening to celebrate whether you’re on site or in our offices, so I hope you take the opportunity to engage where possible.

I had the opportunity in June to visit Northern Italy with Adam Cook and Rod Stribley, where we were hosted by Fagioli, our Alevro joint venture partners. We met the Fagioli senior management team in their facilities in S.Ilario d’Enza and obtained an increased familiarisation of the breadth and depth of their capability and scale. We also met a number of major global customers, demonstrating the global reach of their work and the strong relationships which they have. A visit to the Cometto factory rounded out the trip. You can read more and see pictures of the trip in this newsletter.

In Karratha this week, it was great to join our team at Pluto 2 and talk through the preparations underway as equipment arrivals start to ramp up in the coming weeks. The team at the Gap Ridge yard, focusing on the major inspection overhauls, have done a great job organising the yard and coordinating the layout, pushing through the many challenges to return our cranes to service. I had a quick tour around our new facilities being built at Gap Ridge (completion estimated in June 2024) which will support project warehousing of materials, provide a maintenance service facility and an awesome undercover washpad. I also joined the team at Eliwana towards the end of their June shut where the team were calm, focussed and work areas were well set up - the customer was very complementary of the team efforts, well done to everyone!

A number of our operators and technicians have received training over two weeks at the Tadano facility on the new 400 tonne crawler. Everyone got a lot out of the experience which is great to see. I visited the facility last week before the crawler started its maiden voyage out to its first project in the Goldfields. Read more on our newest edition here.

Sadly, the resources industry in WA has seen four workplace fatalities over the last month. The resources industry is a close-knit community which makes us all stop and reflect on these tragic incidents and the impact on family, friends and work colleagues. Our Fatal Risk Controls and Life Saving Rules aim to prevent serious injuries and fatalities. I encourage you to watch our recently released our Life Saving Rules video and think about the role you play in keeping yourself and your teammates safe.

Finally, I would like to welcome to the team a number of new starters and congratulate Ling Ong (Mobilisation Coordinator) and Ray Jarvie (Crane Services Coordinator) on their five years of service.

You may have noticed this edition of On the Hook looks a little different. We have taken on board your feedback and upgraded our newsletter website, meaning you can now keep up-to-date with news from our business, easily access our range of employee benefits and check out Monadelphouslatest job opportunities. If youre keen to hear whats happening in other areas of Monadelphous, you can subscribe to their newsletters, so theyre delivered straight to your inbox. This can be managed at the bottom of this email, just click on manage preferences.

Please stay safe, and remember every day at work, and every time you execute a task: The Safe Way is the Only Way.
