Welcome to the October edition of On the Hook.
You will read in this newsletter about the fantastic project wins happening across the Engineering Construction (EC) division. The strength of our integrated multi-discipline offering across our structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation (SMPE&I); fabrication; and heavy lift has continued to differentiate us in the market to secure these projects. These awards mark the culmination of a significant effort from many people across the business and in particular our tendering and estimating, engineering and operational teams that have supported these tenders at various stages.
A huge shout out to our planning and mobilisation team together with our recruitment team who are full steam ahead looking at every avenue to help bolster and grow our existing heavy lift and haulage team to support existing and new scopes. Including, a Rewards for Referral program which can see you refer a mate to join our Heavy Lift team and reap the rewards – see more on the program here.
Our integrated service offering continues to grow in the market with the acquisition of Melchor Contracting by Monadelphous. I looked forward to spending time with the Melchor team ensuring that they are fully aware of the capability of our Heavy Lift team and understand how we can support each other.
Congratulations to members of the HL team for being awarded runners up in the 2023 EC Innovation Awards for the Franna Gradient Alert. Team members involved were recognised at the EC Leadership Conference last week and took home a prize for their innovation efforts! Let’s continue to keep these ideas running through Mprove and speak to your supervisor about raising ideas for improvement. Next year FIRST place is ours!
Marlon Baars spent time this month at the Tadano factories in Germany inspecting our new CC88-1600, growing knowledge of the Tadano crawler and hydraulics fleet and building some key relationships. This trip follows on from Brent Mason, Clyde Hunter, Scott Ferguson and Damen Wearing who all received training in the Tadano factory in July to grow knowledge of the new 400T crawler cranes to upskill and support broader training across the business unit.
Pleasingly, the entire Alevro Pluto 2 project team were nominated earlier this month by Bechtel for the site rewards and recognition scheme based on completing work ahead of schedule, the positive can-do culture and the teamwork demonstrated setting an example for the wider project – congratulations to the entire team for fantastic feedback and recognition for their efforts. I spent time on site this week with the team and the feedback was reiterated in a sponsors meeting with Bechtel. You will read in this edition about the extension of our Pluto 2 contract scope to now include the supply of large crawler cranes, including the LR1600 and CC88.
Great feedback was also obtained from Worley this month regarding some critical dual lifts for two tanks at KLE (Woodside) which has been in the making for almost 12 months, with our engineering team heavily involved in providing multiple lift options with complexities being over-come to provide a temporary crane pad to protect the live pipelines underneath. Well done to everyone involved in the successful execution of this project.
Pleasingly we have had a strong start to the year from an HSE perspective. Across the business, we continued to focus on improving health and safety outcomes, and in particular identifying and eliminating fatal risks from our day-to-day operations. This has included improving relevant infield risk management tools and rolling out a series of fatal risk awareness campaigns which you should have seen and participated in around our sites. Our leadership team came together in August to workshop and finalise our key HSE focus areas for the next 12 months – it was a great session with lots of interaction and robust discussion.
As we continue to mobilise to new jobs and as we welcome new people into the business, please continue to look out for each other, stop the job and speak up if you see something that is not right and always remember, the safe way is the only way.
