Welcome team to the April edition of On the Hook.

I hope you all had a good Easter and maybe enjoyed some camping, fishing or like me house reno’s!

This month we have included an, In the field with Heavy Lift, article which demonstrates the diversity of work that we are undertaking across the heavy lift team. Congratulations and thank you to all involved across these projects for a strong safety performance and the teamwork culture demonstrated. You are all inspirational!

The Alevro joint venture (between Monadelphous Heavy Lift and Fagioli) team have now successfully mobilised to Pluto 2 in Karratha, the work to move multiple large modules and equipment from vessels to laydown or installation on site via self-propelled modular trailers (SPMT) will gradually be ramping up over the next few months. Dave Muirhead is the project manager on this important job and Ben Belyea is currently leading the team on site. We will share more over the next couple of months.

We have some stunning photography in this newsletter from the West Gate Tunnel from Superintendent, Lindsay Marley. The team are rising to all challenges being thrown at them and are making some new friends with the Melbourne residents.

Our TRIFR 12-month average of 1.71 is continuing to trend downwards, a fantastic result, and pleasingly we have seen a decrease in our asset incidents in April after a reset across sites in March following a concerning spike. Keep looking out for your teammates, stay vigilant and speak up if you see anything unsafe.

We have also included in this month’s edition, two key technology initiatives which are being trialled across heavy lift and the wider Monadelphous business creating preventative ways to improve safety in relation to pedestrian avoidance and fatigue management. We always want to hear about your ideas on how we can improve safety or make your jobs easier, so if you have any suggestions, please share your ideas with your supervisor. We will continue to recognise those ideas that are raised and share them with the broader team.

A special shout out to Mal Dodt and Donny Cleary who each have a story in this month’s newsletter. Mal retired in April after four and half years with the Heavy lift team. He is one of the humblest people you will ever speak to and when I was thanking him and wishing him all the best for his retirement, he commented on how much he has loved working with the team at Monadelphous and the work he’s done with us. A true legend! Similarly, when I was discussing with Donny back in December the incident where he pulled someone out of a vehicle following an accident and rendered support he was also incredibly humble about what he had done and he commented that it was not until he was back in his bed that night that he really thought about the enormity of what had happened – nothing to be humble about at all Donny!

I want to make special mention of the efforts of the tendering and estimating team and of all the managers, engineering team, superintendents and coordinators that are involved in delivering tenders and quotes for our business unit. There has been a significant amount of tendering activity from large projects to smaller jobs across the last 12 months (all of which are vitality important). We continue to bid standalone heavy lift services packages and integrated work packages in conjunction with the broader Engineering Construction (EC) projects function and we will share more details of secured work when we can. It is safe to say however, the pipeline of construction and maintenance work in our industry is very strong and we are well positioned.
