Welcome to the July edition of On the Hook.   

NAIDOC week activities were held across Monadelphous from 3 -10 July, aligned with this year’s theme “Get up, stand up and show up”. It’s important to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Indigenous people who have stood up and fought for freedoms, rights and their connection to country, culture and community. A lot has changed, however, there’s still much more to be done. Monadelphous’ ongoing commitments and supporting actions were launched in our fourth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) with specific focus on fostering a deeper understanding within our workforce of the significant cultural contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made and continue to make, extending our training and development offerings, working closely with Indigenous businesses and partnering with communities where we work.  

We are continuing the communication and promotion of Alevro, a joint venture (JV) between Monadelphous Heavy Lift and global heavy lift and shift specialists, Fagioli. For the Heavy Lift team, the Alevro JV creates a platform for growth and provides an opportunity to execute larger and more complex projects with a large fleet of SPMT’s and alternative lifting equipment. We are leveraging off a buoyant resources market and growing opportunities in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which will in turn generate development and growth opportunities for our people. Our current project at Iron Bridge is being executed in partnership with Fagioli and has provided an opportunity to demonstrate how seamlessly we work together, and has created an opportunity for our people to grow expertise in the heavy haulage of large modules. We are actively tendering several opportunities for future works.  

We are continuing to engage our teams on site in the Monadelphous Gender Diversity and Inclusion Plan. We have four key commitments in the plan: ensuring a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace free of sexual harassment and assault; increasing female participation through early career pathways and nurturing key female talent; removing barriers to ensure equal access to opportunities for women entering trade roles; and connecting women through networking and mentoring. I encourage all of you to engage in these discussions, provide input and ideas on what more we could be doing as a team to support inclusion – read the plan and its actions here: Gender Diversity and Inclusion Plan 2021-2024. 

Our operations and tendering teams have been busy over the last six months generating contract extensions and securing new work for the year ahead. Our Iron Bridge work continues to extend, and we expect to be on site until the end of the year, we are supporting the Mining Minerals team in the Western Turner Syncline (WTS) Tom Price shutdown and South Flank shutdowns throughout July and August.  We continue to support the Maintenance and Industrial Services (M&IS) division in their Nelson Point shutdowns and further work will be commencing at the Tom Price conveyor extension project. There are many tenders being actively progressed across the business highlighting the extent of opportunity that exists across our core markets. I look forward to sharing the outcome of these tenders as they progress. 

I would like to congratulate Joe Wong, Jasmine Browning and Jet Loh on their promotions, and Scott Ferguson on his 10-year milestone – congratulations to you all on these well-deserved achievements. We also welcome a new addition to the Heavy Lift family with Ayla Cilento giving birth to baby Patrick!
