On the Hook

A powerful partnership begins: Hello APIP

At the end of last year, we welcomed a new team into the Monadelphous family with the acquisition of Australian Power Industry Partners (APIP).

APIP is a Queensland-based specialist high-voltage electrical contractor with a highly experienced team focused on the build of high voltage infrastructure.

The APIP story began when co-founders Nathan and Anita Roach identified a gap in the HV electrical construction and maintenance industry.

“We could see that there were a number of Tier 1 contractors available to deliver large scale, complex HV builds, but there was an opportunity to deliver the smaller, but just as important, short-term and ongoing works,” Nathan Roach reflected.

“We wanted to set ourselves up as that true enabling partner, so that our clients - be they in mining, infrastructure or renewables could focus on their primary purpose and not be distracted with electricity considerations such as supply, connections or maintenance and extensions of existing electrical assets.”

Initially, APIP came together with like-minded, established companies to form APIP; they were proven specialists in civil works, tower painting and aerial stringing. What evolved was something a little more focussed on key design and construction activities for substation and HV lines.

Nearly 12 years on, APIP continues to deliver high voltage construction services into the Energy Industry, assisting clients with improving works delivery through increased project delivery efficiencies, reduced outages and risk to the high voltage networks, and providing greater flexibility through early collaboration with valued clients.

APIP’s reputation is built on delivering complex, HV projects for utilities, resources and renewables customers across Queensland and New South Wales, and they have also delivered work in WA along the way. For over a decade, APIP have become known for capability, responsiveness and genuine customer care.

Nathan’s career was founded within the Transmission Industry for two decades in various field, leadership, engineering and strategic positions before making the move to set up APIP.

Today, APIP delivers end-to-end HV services including design management, procurement, construction and refurbishment of high voltage infrastructure assets.

“We’ve formed some great relationships with sub-contractors, suppliers and customers, and have had some fantastic crew come along who are specialists in their field and passionate about what they do,” Anita said.

APIP’s expertise supports essential energy work across multiple sectors and now strengthens Monadelphous’ footprint in the growing transmission and distribution market.

For Nathan and Anita, joining Monadelphous was about unlocking the next phase of growth. The ability to leverage Monadelphous’ strengths, capabilities and experience and continue to innovate, accelerate and take on more complex, large-scale projects is a fantastic outcome for APIP and their new and existing customers.

Their recent visit to Perth was an important moment. They spent time with leaders across EC and M&IS, learned how we work, and shared more about APIP’s capability and aspirations. The alignment and shared vision across the two companies was clear.

APIP brings specialist capability, a strong reputation and a culture that fits beautifully with ours. Their expertise is extensive, and combined with Mono’s scale, we’ve got a powerful foundation for growth,” said Anthony Birkett, General Manager Power Transmission & Distribution.

APIP are now operating from our Brisbane office as “A Monadelphous Business”. Whilst it’s business as usual for their customers and partners, they are now supported by broader resources, more opportunity, and a team excited to welcome them in.

We’re proud to welcome Nathan, Anita and the entire APIP crew with a number of new projects already at execution, or near execution, phase. They’ve achieved something special over the past decade, and we’re excited to be part of their next chapter.
