Delivering at scale for Pluto 1

Some milestones happen quietly. Others arrive on hundreds of axles and make the ground shake.

In early April, the Pluto Train 1 Mods Project reached one of those unforgettable moments, with the Alevro team successfully completing the first delivery of modules to site in Dampier. After more than a year of detailed planning, engineering, coordination and regular site travel, seeing both modules arrive safely was a proud and energising moment for everyone involved.

This delivery stage included the arrival and transportation of two enormous modules to site. First up was the 170M module. At 889 tonnes on its own, this was no ordinary move. Measuring almost 26 metres once loaded, the transport width proved to be a key challenge, demanding precise planning and execution. The move was completed successfully using four sets of 18 axle lines, a total of 72 axles, supported by four Power Pack Units (PPUs). Big, bold and unforgiving of error, this was exactly the kind of challenge the team is built for.

Just two days later, the scale increased again with the delivery of the 190M1 module. Weighing in at 1,990 tonnes, this module stretched to 67.8 metres in length. With a transport height of 25.8 metres, every metre and every decision mattered. The move utilised two sets of 42 axle lines (84 in total), supported by four PPUs to safely guide the load home.

What makes this milestone truly meaningful isn’t just the size of the modules or the complexity of the transport. It’s the people behind it. From early engineering and transport studies, through to site preparation, execution and safety, this achievement reflects months of collaboration across international teams and disciplines. Planning, engineering, transport and site crews all played a critical role in keeping momentum strong and standards high.

Safety at the forefront of every decision - from the earliest planning through to execution on the ground - meant both modules arrived without harm to people or the environment.

Safely delivering two of the largest modules on the Pluto Train 1 Mods Project, the first of two module deliveries planned, is no small feat. It’s a powerful reminder of our capability, our teamwork and what’s possible when experience and trust come together, especially under pressure.

This was truly a milestone worth celebrating, and a strong foundation for what comes next. Well done to everyone involved in this achievement.
