In this edition, we will be featuring Jon, Moh, and John, each sharing the highlights of their career and journey at Monadelphous.
Name and Job Title: Jon Mallory – Engineering Manager
Monos Tenure: September 2023
Experience in HL Industry: Over 12 years of global heavy lift and Heavy Transport experience since Oct 2011 with ALE in the UK, coupled with over 8 years of structural design and fabrication expertise since 2004.
Background: Jon has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the UK in 2004 with a keen interest in aviation, structures, and technical challenges.
Previous Roles:
- Metsec Ltd (2004 – 2011): Structural Engineer for building design.
- ALE (2011-2020): Design Engineering Manager, involved in global projects.
- Mammoet (2020-2023): Engineering Manager - Taiwan.
Notable Experience:
- Involved in all aspects of heavy lift operations globally, from concept to operational use.
- Designed and tested lifting gear for large ring cranes, with capacities ranging up to 5000t.
- Diverse experience across sectors including nuclear, civil, renewables, oil & gas, and marine operations.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Developing the team, mentoring, and driving procedure and process improvements.
- Creating value-added engineering solutions for clients and internal teams.
- Supporting Alevro for Heavylift engineering support.

Name and Job Title: Moh Ahram – Senior HL Project Engineer
Tenure: December 2018
Experience in HL Industry: With over 17 years in the heavy lift industry, Moh brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role.
Background: Moh began his career as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer working on an LNG plant construction in Qatar. It was here that he was introduced to heavy lifting, sparking his passion for the field.

Notable Experience:
- Extensive exposure to heavy lifting across diverse sectors, including Oil & Gas, Iron Ore, and wind energy.
- Strong technical and practical exposure contributing to Monadelphous.
- Actively passes on knowledge and expertise to the team.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Managing and fulfilling project scope deliverables.
- Liaising with PMs, clients, or site supervision.
- Planning forward engineering activities and participating in tender works.
- Providing feedback and support to the team.

Name and Job Title: John Derrick – Principal Engineer
Tenure: Early 2012
Experience in HL Industry: With a remarkable 54 years in the heavy lift industry, John embodies a reservoir of wisdom and proficiency.
Background: John's journey began in 1970 with England's crane manufacturers, including Stothert & Pitt, where he rose to Senior Projects Engineer. He later worked at AB Cranes, Butterly Engineering, and Sarens UK before embarking on international ventures with Van Seumeren, Bechtel, and Sarens Mexico. His diverse roles encompassed project management, general management, and consultancy.
Notable Experience:
- Led numerous high-profile projects, including the transport and erection of the Ching Ma Bridge deck sections and offshore yard load-out work.
- Managed extensive crane fleets and operations across various continents, gaining invaluable insights into heavy lift operations globally.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Solving problems, conducting lift studies, and planning heavy lift operations.
- Providing guidance and support to the team on technical matters and project execution.
