Shutdown success at Western Turner Syncline 2

In what was a great collaborative effort in Engineering Construction (EC), the team recently demobilised from Western Turner Syncline 2 after completing a series of shutdowns with a total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR) and fatal risk injury frequency rate (FRIFR) of zero!

The Western Turner Syncline Phase 2 (WTS2) Project facilitated the expansion of Rio Tinto’s production from B1. The Project was divided into two distinct parts:

• Greenfields – The construction of a Primary Crushing Facility at WTS2 connected to existing infrastructure at WTS1 via a 13 kilometre overland conveyor; which was executed by Mondium.
• Brownfields – Upgrades to the Existing WTS1 and Tom Price dry crushing and screening plant to allow for increased capacity and throughput.

Monadelphous’ project scope was a part of the Brownfields shutdown campaign which spanned over six months on site and included three major shutdowns in April, June and August; all of which went very well, and our customer was extremely pleased.

As part of the upgrades, the team upgraded the Stacker STK93, Bucketwheel Reclaimer BWR42 and Fines Train Loadout along with a changeout of the undersized chutes on the final produce screens and completed legacy punchlist items.

EC Projects Project Manager Paige Griffiths said the project was a great success and the team worked collaboratively to achieve a safe completion.

“This project was a continuation of Monadelphous’ recent success on Rio Tinto Projects and demonstrates our ability to meet the resourcing requirements in what is a challenging labour market for our industry which has been impacted by Covid-19,” said Paige.

“I am extremely proud of the team for completing all project requirements safely, on time and to a high quality,” said Paige.

“This project is another example of the truth behind our Monadelphous motto We deliver what we promise.

“We mobilised almost 400 people to site over the course of the project and peaked at just over 200 boot-on-ground during the August Shutdown.”

“It’s a testament to the team to have completed each shutdown on time and to have no recordable injuries or potentially serious incidents for the project,” said Paige.
