A message from Damien

I hope everyone’s been keeping safe and well since the last edition of On the Wire. There’s been plenty happening across the business, and it’s been fantastic to see our teams continue to deliver strong outcomes while supporting one another and maintaining a focus on what matters most.

We’ve had some great reasons to celebrate recently, starting with the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline Project team take out the EC Teamwork Baton for March. I was delighted to travel to Gladstone in July to present the award in person and recognise what has been an outstanding team effort.

Taking on Monadelphous’ largest construction project delivered through the Gladstone Branch was no small task. The team stepped outside their comfort zone, drew on expertise from across Queensland and Western Australia, and came together to deliver a complex scope with a strong culture of safety, collaboration and shared success with our client. What stood out most was the way people worked together. From Rockhampton, Gladstone and Brisbane through to Perth, the team stayed connected, supported each other and continually looked for ways to improve. This recognition is a reflection of the commitment, teamwork and pride that every person brought to the project. Congratulations to everyone involved on a well-earned achievement.

The calibre of our people continues to be recognised, with a number of individuals receiving recognition. Congratulations to June Tinny Time winner, Mark Swinkels from E&I Project & Technical Services, who demonstrated the importance of speaking up and looking out for others when he identified an isolation issue, took immediate action and ensured the entire crew was informed. Congratulations also to Eddie Gregorio, who was presented with an iCare Award by our client at Parker Point in recognition of the high level of support he provided and for going over and above in his role. Receiving recognition directly from a client is something to be proud of and reflects the strong relationships our people continue to build.

I'd also like to congratulate Jesse Lockley on receiving a Gold Coin Award from our client, Chevron, for his outstanding attention to detail and commitment to quality. Jesse identified a potential risk to critical HV cable assets during construction activities and stepped in to ensure preservation controls remained in place, preventing potential damage and protecting future commissioning works. His vigilance, initiative and willingness to take ownership are exactly the behaviours we want to see across our projects.

Mark, Eddie and Jesse are all great examples of our values in action and the positive impact our people make every day.

One of the things I’m most proud of at Monadelphous is seeing our people grow their careers with us. As we continue to secure new work and create new opportunities, the strength of our business will always come back to the quality of our people. It’s incredibly rewarding to see team members stepping into new roles, building their capability and taking the next step in their careers.

Congratulations to Jamie Judge on his promotion to Construction Manager, Scott Hughes and Liam Martin on their promotions to Senior Project Engineer, and Bryce Haneveer on his promotion to Senior Supervisor. These appointments reflect the contribution each of these individuals has made to the business and the exciting opportunities ahead for our E&I teams.

On the project front, we continue to make strong progress in the renewable energy sector as our project pipeline grows and our capability continues to expand. Following the successful completion of the Eliwana BESS project, our third BESS project for Fortescue at Cloudbreak is now underway, with civil works progressing to enable battery delivery.

We also had some exciting news with the award of our first wind farm project. As part of the Nullagine Wind Project in Western Australia, we’ve been awarded a contract to install wind turbine generators in support of Fortescue’s decarbonisation objectives. This is another significant milestone for our business and reflects both the confidence our long-term customers place in us and the growing role we are playing in supporting Australia’s energy transition. This work is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027 and is another significant step in our expanding renewable energy capability.

A key focus from an HSE perspective in recent months has been preventing serious line-of-fire incidents across our work. Following recent events involving cable drum handling and lifting activities, we have reinforced our fatal risk controls across the E&I business, particularly around lifting operations, cable drum handling and cable winching activities. I encourage everyone to remain vigilant, challenge anything that doesn’t look right and continue looking out for one another. The controls are there for a reason, and we all have a role to play in ensuring they are applied every time.
