On the Wire

A message from your E&I leaders

Written by Communications | 3 Oct 2025

It’s been a big couple of months since we kicked off the financial year, and I’m pleased to share that the momentum hasn’t slowed one bit.

Work is now underway on our EC Strategy for the year ahead, and I’m genuinely excited about the direction we’re heading. A big part of our focus is entering the Electrification, Generation and Storage markets, while also building and demonstrating our capability to be a key contractor in the Power Transmission and Distribution space.

These aren’t just short-term goals, they’re part of a long-term plan to position ourselves for the future. And we’re already seeing it come to life.

Our recent win of Fortescue’s North Star Junction Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project is a huge step forward. Located 140 kilometres south of Port Hedland, this project supports Fortescue’s push to decarbonise its Pilbara operations, and is a great example of how we are aligning with our customers’ sustainability goals while expanding into new markets.

Works kicked off in in September, with completion expected in the first half of 2026. It’s a significant milestone for the E&I business unit, and a direct result of years of investment, learning and persistence. After several years of considered planning and time spent understanding and capability building in this space, it is fantastic to see our efforts paying off and a credit to the team who helped bring it to life.

This project opens the door to new opportunities, and I’m confident we’ve got the right team and mindset to make the most of them.

Speaking of achievements, a big congratulations to Thomas Youngleson on his recent graduation from our Graduate Development program! Our Graduate Program is designed to give recent university graduates a structured and supported pathway into the Monadelphous business, combining hands-on experience, coaching and formal training. It’s fantastic to see Thomas reach this milestone, and it’s a great reminder of the value of investing in emerging talent. Supporting the next generation of professionals is key to our long-term success, and we’re proud to be part of their career journeys.

There is a lot of work ahead, but also a lot to look forward to. Thanks again for your continued commitment and energy. I encourage everyone to keep pushing forward and making FY26 one to remember.

Damien

Welcome, everyone, to the latest edition of On the Wire.

We kick off this edition by congratulating the Car Dumper 3 (CD3) team, who successfully completed the main shutdown at Nelson Point for BHP, most importantly, incident and injury free. This achievement is the result of three years of meticulous planning: reducing shutdown hours and risk, engaging with the owner and developing a methodology for safe execution. Well done to Luke Jaenke and his E&I team, it's a credit to you and hopefully you got the satisfaction of seeing it all come to fruition. Little time for rest, now onto CD4.

At Greenbushes, the team continue to chip away at the remaining scope and can now see light at the end of the tunnel. Credit to Dave Chapple and his team for maintaining the right attitude and grinding out the remaining work to a high safety standard.

Up north at Pluto on the Burrup Peninsula, we’re experiencing a bit of turbulence, but nothing the team can’t overcome. There’s a big push underway to complete the first milestone, followed by a bit of a breather before the ramp-up in February 2026. Leading the way is a familiar face, with Robert Ecker returning to the fold. Rob has played an integral role in several Monadelphous projects in the past and will be a welcome addition to the team.

Whilst we’re in the Burrup, Craig Wearne and Josh Parfit have mobilised to our latest contract, the Parker Point Electrical Services Project where we have been engaged to undertake the electrical works for Bechtel/Rio Tinto’s stockyard upgrade. The team have just successfully lifted in the two new substations and transformers. It’s early days, but it has the all signs of a good project in the making.

A short trek up to Cape Lambert, where Luke Healy is heading up the E&I team for the CLAHDO Project. It’s still early days, with Luke and the team currently buried in workpacks and procurement. The new year will bring a steep ramp-up once the structure starts to take shape.

Over on Barrow Island, the Jansz team is progressing well. Transformers are assembled, bulk HV terminations are underway, and some very critical testing is taking place. The team have also completed all the tie-ins to the Central Control Room (CCR), receiving high praise from Chevron Operations - any mistakes there could shut down the plant. The team were likened to ninjas that were in and out without leaving a trace. The Emergency Diesel Genset Area is also complete, with the team having to undertake a substantial amount of carryover works from the vendor. It’s been a challenging project, but the team have stood tall every time.

The Western Range Project team are now in the final stages of demobilisation. What began as a two-month shutdown turned into a 15-month engagement, a testament to the team’s performance, with the client continually diverting work to Monadelphous. This performance has also positioned us well for upcoming projects.

Crossing the border to South Australia, we welcome Rod Langlois to the business. Rod now heads up the E&I team at Prominent Hill and brings a wealth of experience. It’s great timing to have Rod on board, with work fronts opening up for the E&I team and a substantial two months ahead to close out the project.

Across the border again to Gladstone (QLD), the team continues to perform strongly on both the execution and tender fronts. Their biggest project to date, the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline Project, is now 70% complete and at peak manning. Clint and his team are delivering on time and on budget, whilst keeping the client on their toes. Keep up the great work.

Finally, as we leave the cooler months behind, and with most of our work in some pretty unforgiving locations, it is a timely reminder to stay hydrated and watch for early signs of dehydration and heat stress. Drink plenty of water and stay vigilant throughout the upcoming warmer months.

That’s all for this month - stay safe and look out for each other.

Iain
