Bringing it home strong at Kemerton

Written by Communications | 30 Sep 2022

The Monadelphous team has been on site at the Kemerton Lithium Plant (KLP) since November 2019, delivering the pyromet structural, mechanical, piping (SMP) package of work which included two processing trains for the lithium hydroxide plant; which grew to welcome the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) team in January who have taken the baton from the SMP team and are bringing the project home strong to completion.

The E&I work scope has grown and expanded, with the team working together to respond to our customers’ needs and deliver on a project that is expected to be the world’s largest lithium production facility, located in Kemerton, south of Perth, Western Australia.

E&I Construction Manager, Zeljko Rezic noted the culture on site between all the Monadelphous teams underpinned the successful delivery of the project.

“We’ve had a great team culture throughout this project,” said Zeljko.

“While the SMP team were going through their demobilisation phase, the E&I team was growing and we had employees moving into the E&I team from the original SMP team which was quite the change for them, but they adapted well.”

“The combined tenure of work in the project provided a great framework to manage the works and it’s clear in the outcomes that the team have delivered fantastic results.”

“During the installation, the team were able to provide technical solutions to ensure the works were completed to a high standard, it’s a credit to the team’s expertise.”

“It was a real joy coming to site every day and the team were extremely supportive of one another, as a manager it was really pleasing to see the team enjoying their time at work and in their down time together.”

While some challenges were faced finding enough people to meet the demands of the project, the recruitment team were up to the challenge, and we looked at new solutions.

“It was a significant effort by the human resources department to help us meet the demand of people for the project and for the first time we introduced two weeks on and one week off roster, which worked well with a carefully crafted fatigue management plan.”

The team have kept a strong safety performance throughout the project, and at the time of writing, have achieved 279 days injury free, which equates to an injury free project.

“The team continue to exceed our safety targets which is significant given the transition from a simple greenfield environment of Train 2, into commissioning and operational areas of Train 1 and the Hydromet plant. It’s a credit to the team – they should be immensely proud of what they’ve delivered on this project.”

The team are bringing the project home strong after having the E&I scope expanded, with works expected to be completed in August 2022.

“We were invited to continue our presence on site after completing the initial E&I work which speaks volumes of the work ethic and outcome delivered by the Monadelphous team,” finished Zeljko.

Well done to all involved for providing our customer with a brilliant outcome!
