Number one in Mongolia

Earlier this month, it was announced that Oyu Tolgoi was one of the the TOP-100 Enterprises of Mongolia for 2022. 

The TOP-100 Enterprises highlights the organisations that contribute and play a vital role in the social and economic development of the country. 

This is a massive achievement for the Rio Tinto team, and our people, who have played a key role in the Oyu Tolgoi journey since 2017. Everyone involved should be very proud of this esteemed award.  

We have an established office in Ulaanbaatar to support our contract in Mongolia. Over the years we have focused on developing project execution capability through the secondment of expatriate management and supervision, the provision of upskilling and development opportunities to local skilled employees and the establishment of relationships with local suppliers. 

Late last year, we announced we had secured a contract for the construction of surface infrastructure for the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Project, located in the South Gobi region of Mongolia, where we have been operating since 2017. Our team is currently on the ground with around 30 per cent of our scope completed so far.
