On the Wire

A message from your E&I leaders, Aug '22

Written by Communications | 30 Aug 2022

G’day everyone, welcome to the August 2022 edition of On the Wire. Starting with safety, it’s pleasing to be able to report that our recordable injury frequency rate continues to be zero – thank you everyone for putting in the effort to deliver this outcome. Let’s keep it going …

We have now formally announced our contract wins at the Oyu Tolgoi (OT) Underground Project in Mongolia and at Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes mine, south-west WA. Both contracts include structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation (SMPE&I) services. The OT contract – referred to as the Above-Ground package – includes the installation of two new conveyors and an electrical substation, as well as associated modifications to existing facilities. For the Greenbushes project, we will construct a range of facilities within the mine services area.

A number of existing contracts are currently winding down, and the currently high level of tendering suggests that we will have a healthy pipeline of opportunities for people to move on to. We are hoping that a further contract win will be announced shortly.

Our team at the Albemarle Kemerton Lithium Plant (KLP) continues to finish strongly, with completion likely to be within weeks, rather than months. Our E&I team has done a great job in positioning the business for future expansion works at KLP for train 3 and 4. Our presence at Rio Tinto’s Gudai-Darri Project is almost complete, and again, we have been instrumental in helping position Monadelphous for upcoming iron ore work in the immediate pipeline. Our teams supporting BHP and Rio Tinto shutdowns continue to produce the goods, which is great to see!

In the east, the Gladstone operation continues to track strongly, while the shutdown for the Tronox Heavy Metal Concentrate Plant at Broken Hill has been delayed until September in order to mitigate project risks factors. In PNG, the Lihir Island front-end recovery plant is nearing completion, with our E&I crew likely to maintain a presence on site until October.

By now you should have been invited to share your perspectives on working at Monadelphous and your experiences within our workplaces, through our online 2022 Monadelphous Employee Survey. I strongly encourage you all to participate in this survey, your feedback will help us to continually improve the employee experience at Monadelphous.

You can be assured that the survey is being conducted by an independent agency, Painted Dog Research, and all responses are confidential and anonymous. The 2022 Monadelphous Employee Survey is open until Sunday, 11 September.

Within the E&I business unit, we have a number of personnel changes. Martin Mackay has moved into the role as Project Manager of the OT Above-Ground contract, and Ian Hannant (Hanno) will backfill Martin as the acting E&I Operations Manager. Please join me in wishing Martin and Hanno good luck in their new roles.

We are delivering safely and profitably, and we are successfully winning more work. Thank you, everyone – it only happens because of you!

Stay safe.
Stuart
