Fast‑paced, complex and always evolving – that’s exactly how Jamie Judge likes his work. His career journey to this point has been shaped by hands‑on experience, strong teams and a genuine commitment to delivering projects the right way.
His career in mining began on a project in Gladstone, where he worked through construction and into commissioning – a grounding experience that set the tone for what was to come. A qualified electrician since 2007, Jamie joined Monos in 2018 and hasn’t looked back, progressing from electrician to supervisor, superintendent and now Construction Manager on the North Star Junction and Eliwana BESS projects.
Jamie said that what he enjoys most is the pace.
“There are so many moving parts from planning and implementation to problem solving and delivery. It keeps you switched on every day,” he said.
Originally born in Sydney and raised on the Gold Coast, which is still home today, family remains a central part of life outside of work. He’s a proud parent to a 17‑year‑old son, who also happens to be his best mate.
Sport played a massive part in Jamie’s upbringing with rugby league once the dream. That same competitive drive has carried him through into a career delivering major projects across Australia, Papua New Guinea and Mongolia.
When Jamie’s not on site, you’ll likely find him at the beach, in the surf, or sticking to a daily gym routine. A passionate NFL fan, he also recently ticked off a bucket‑list moment – his first skydive to celebrate turning 40.
One standout Monadelphous memory for Jamie? The Mongolia MHS 2 project.
“It was a small expat team and the bond we built was something special,” Jamie said.
“We worked hard, supported each other and had some great moments. It’s a project I’ll always look back on fondly.”
Today, life on the BESS project is busy and varied. Days typically start with team meetings and pre‑starts, followed by site walks engaging with supervisors and crews, before shifting into planning, client liaison, progress claims and subcontractor management.
Jamie said that what makes the North Star Junction BESS project particularly exciting is its impact.
“It’s a smaller footprint and shorter duration, but it’s a really meaningful project,” he said.
“Being Monadelphous’ first BESS project, we’ve worked closely with a wide range of subcontractors and internal teams like Heavy Lift to get it to where it is today.
“Seeing how the battery units integrate into the client’s network is fascinating.”
Like any project, challenges come with the territory, particularly managing multiple subcontractors within a tight footprint. But strong planning, communication and a relentless focus on safety have been key to success.
More broadly, Jamie said that projects like BESS represent an important shift for the business.
“They show that Monadelphous is a full‑package provider,” he said.
“Civils, SMP, E&I, Heavy Lift – everyone comes together to deliver an entire project, and that collaboration is what sets us up for the future.”
For anyone considering the industry, Jamie’s message is simple.
“The FIFO lifestyle can be challenging, but the sense of achievement you get from delivering a project safely and handing it over to the client is hard to beat,” he said.
