Welcome to the 2024 apprentices

Written by Communications | 6 Mar 2024

Monadelphous is proud to welcome the 2024 intake of Engineering Construction apprentices who commenced their apprenticeships on 12 February! The 16 new recruits are a combination of those starting their journey and others partway through their apprenticeships. Each apprentice is learning about a chosen area - mechanical fitting, electrical work, or boilermaking/welding dedicated to honing their skills in their chosen specialisation. They join 119 other apprentices and trainees across the country over both divisions - Engineering Construction and Maintenance and Industrial Services, reflecting our commitment to strengthening our skilled workforce nationwide.

Operations Manager Iain Hannant expressed his enthusiasm for the new cohort.

"We are excited to welcome this year’s apprentices to the Monadelphous family. Their commitment to learning and development is commendable, and we are confident that they will make valuable contributions to our projects,” Iain said.

Apprenticeships blend practical on-the-job training with formal education provided by a Registered Training Organisation. Over the course of four years, apprentices work towards obtaining a nationally recognised trade qualification in their chosen field as they actively engage with experienced and fully qualified mentors within our workforce, gaining hands-on experience.

During induction week the apprentices completed essential courses to prepare them for their upcoming projects. First Aid, LVR/CPR, Working at Heights (WAH), and Confined Space Training (CTW) were among the courses undertaken, ensuring the apprentices are well-prepared for the safety and efficiency demands of various projects. Their induction week was also a great opportunity to get to know each other, forming friendships and spend time with the Apprentice team.

With a solid foundation, the apprentices are set to contribute their talents at different Monadelphous sites including Kathleen Valley, Mt Weld, Christmas Creek, CD3, TUL, CGP3, and Kemerton. Each location presents unique opportunities and challenges, providing the apprentices with a diverse range of experiences to further develop their learning.

In an industry facing ongoing skills shortages, apprenticeships and traineeships play a crucial role in upskilling the existing workforce and introducing new talent to the industry. Our focus on offering opportunities for professional development and retaining apprentices and trainees reflects our commitment to nurturing talent and ensuring a skilled workforce for the future.

We look forward to seeing the growth and success of each apprentice as they embark on this journey with us.
