A message from Doug Macintyre, November 23'

Welcome to your latest edition of Ramp Up. 

We kick off this month with Safer Together’s HSER Forum that was recently held in Perth. Our Health, Safety, and Environment Representatives (HSERs) had the opportunity to learn from industry safety leaders and share their own expertise about industry best practice. Thanks to everyone who attended the sessions and our HSERs who gave their time to represent their peers. They play a pivotal role within our business, representing our team members in health and safety matters and driving our strong safety culture across our operations.    

As I mentioned in the last edition, it has been a very busy few months across our Energy business with increased activity across on onshore and offshore operations as well as three major turnarounds taking place simultaneously. I’m pleased to share that throughout it all we have kept our focus on safety, and for the first time since 2019, across the whole Maintenance and Industrial Services division, we achieved a recordable injury free month in September. This is a significant result and I encourage you all to maintain this momentum and always keep safety front and centre in everything you do. 

It is fantastic to see one of our offshore teams taking significant steps toward promoting gender diversity and inclusion on-site. As you can see from the picture below, the crew gathered to paint a pride flag on the offshore facility to demonstrate our commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion and respect for everyone, regardless of gender, background, or identity. Well done to everyone involved.  

At the recent M&IS Leadership Conference, Rope Access Coordinator Chris Maguire showcased the ACX Power Ascender, a new piece of equipment in the rope access world. This is a battery powered rope winch that can be deployed to speed up rescues, reduce technician fatigue, and haul equipment to remote work fronts. 

We have now purchased two units and our offshore level 3 rope access technicians have been attending the safe-use training course in Bibra Lake. These two units will be mobilised to the Woodside offshore facilities for utilisation on several major projects where rapid rescue is crucial to scope execution. This includes work on the North Rankin flare bridge, where the technicians will be required to clear their work site in a very short time in the event of a blow-down. Long rope climbs in high heat and humidity can be eliminated, reducing fatigue and potential heat stress, and allowing the technicians to focus more on their trades than the journey back to the deck. 

As part of our 2023 Karratha Grants Program, I’m thrilled to share that Monadelphous has selected 21 community organisations to partner with in the year ahead supporting projects, programs, groups and initiatives that have a positive impact on the local community. I will continue to share updates and stories with you on these initiatives in the year ahead.
