Welcome to another edition of Ramp Up, which we start on a very sad note. As you may be aware, last week there was a tragic and fatal incident at the Woodside North Rankin Complex involving a Vertech employee. Given the close-knit nature of the oil and gas industry here in WA, I know that many of you will know the individual. I would like to extend my deepest and heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues in what I know will be a very difficult time. I am particularly thinking of our crew on NRC.
This no doubt comes as a shock and may bring up a mix of emotions. The situation will affect you in different ways, so we have our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) available. People Sense can be accessed 24/7 via phone at 1300 307 912 or online via peoplesense.com.au. All sessions are completely confidential and are free to you and your family.
On a lighter note, I am thrilled to share we recently acquired BMC, a maintenance services contractor located in Morwell in the Gippsland region of Victoria, which is in very close proximity to the Bass Strait where there are many opportunities in the oil and gas sector. BMC specialise in exotic materials welding, high voltage and instrumentation installation, calibration and maintenance, which will be a great addition to our suite of services. You can read more in this edition.
The past week (27 May – 3 June 2023) marked National Reconciliation Week. I strongly encourage you to educate yourself and get involved in NRW activities in your area. Not only is it important for us to engage with these initiatives as a part of our RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) commitment, but also as we work towards being a more inclusive society.
In this edition, we travel with Tamara Archer and Aleysha Carr, two of our long-term team members, who recently had the opportunity to visit Karratha Gas Plant and experience life on site for the first time. We also hear more about the Karratha Careers Expo which we took part in, a fantastic community event and an opportunity for us to connect with local students and jobseekers to discuss oil and gas career pathways and inspire them for their futures.
Until next time, please stay safe and look out for one another.
Doug
