With a career spanning 16 years, Mathew Lovell (Matt) entered the construction industry with a carpentry apprenticeship in 2008, but quickly moved into scaffolding and rigging. It was then that he first worked with Monadelphous at Mount Keith Nickel.
In 2014, he became a full-time employee stationed at Barrow Island, and later that year progressed to become a high-risk supervisor.
A year later, Matt was ready for his next challenge so he made the transition from construction to the planning and coordination of sites.
He said that a highlight of his career has been the ability of the industry to foster career growth, and that he enjoys how multi-faceted all his roles have been to date.
“I would recommend the energy industry for the diversity of jobs that it offers and the opportunities that exist to further develop skills,” Matt said.
Matt has been working on the Shell Prelude contract since 2018, previously as an Offshore Maintenance Planner and now as an Offshore Delivery Coordinator. He said he loves how dynamic his role is and the challenges it provides.
“Every day, I get the chance to do or learn something new. I enjoy the wide scope of work that we get involved with,” he said.
“My favourite part is working with both the onshore and offshore teams because we have some of the most skilled, helpful, safest technicians and staff members that I have ever worked with.
“I get to interact and support a lot of people from many different disciplines across the business.”
Matt also brings his love for personal growth and adventure into his everyday life. During his R&R, you’ll often find him exploring with his kids, gardening, camping, and renovating his family’s home.
As a family of keen travellers, he is looking forward to visiting the USA and enjoying some time snowboarding with his young sons.
“We now have two boys, Theodore and Hudson, and they are just like me – we don't like sitting still!” he said.
On top of all this, Matt has his sights set on furthering his education and is looking to pursue leadership and management. In the meantime, he is thoroughly enjoying the challenges coming up.
“We have a busy time ahead with the fabric maintenance and CUI work scope, ongoing routine and major maintenance work scope, planning and then the execution of the next turnaround in 2026,” he said.
