Each year in July, Monadelphous come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week and the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year, we hosted and attended a series of events across our operations and offices, some new and some familiar, encouraging moments of reflection and celebration throughout the week.
Our Perth and Brisbane offices hosted NAIDOC morning teas catered by local Indigenous businesses. In Perth, the team was joined by special guests Whadjuk Ballardong Elder, Aunty Robyn Collard and her Grandson Tryse Rioli, inspiring us with a beautiful Welcome to Country and Didgeridoo performance. Continuing our sponsorship of the Victoria Park Centre for Arts NAIDOC exhibition, team members enjoyed the artworks of Brent Johnston all the way from the Bush Blossoms Gallery in Kalgoorlie.
Later in the week, we were excited to be joined by recently retired AFL icon and proud Noongar man, Michael Walters, for a personal Q&A session, held in person and streamed online. A memorable and meaningful discussion, you can now watch the recording online.
In Darwin, our local team supported the annual NAIDOC March and community barbeque. We are also very proud to announce our employee, Hailee Espie-Baker, was named the Northern Territory NAIDOC Apprentice of the Year. Congratulations Hailee, an incredible achievement!
In Port Hedland, our F150 Electric Vehicle display was a big hit at the NAIDOC Week opening ceremony in the town square. The Port Hedland team also partnered with local Aboriginal organisation Julyardi to host the Nothing But Net Children’s Basketball Carnival.
Across Monadelphous' operations and onsite, our teams came together in various ways, from barbeques and morning teas to cultural sessions and engaging activities with customers and communities.
NAIDOC Week holds significant importance in the Monadelphous calendar as we work towards our vision for reconciliation. Committed to our reconciliation journey, we are currently working to develop our fifth Reconciliation Action Plan and will continue to influence meaningful positive change into the future.
