Since joining Monadelphous in January 2021, Johnny has become a cornerstone of the offshore team, bringing a wealth of experience, leadership, and a passion for people to every swing.
Starting as an INLEC and Rope Access Team Leader, he has remained on the same facility, evolving into key roles including EEHA Focal Point, Rope Access Focal Point, and HSE Representative onboard the Central Processing Facility (CPF) since June 2021.
As the team has grown more than tenfold, his influence and dedication have scaled right alongside it.
Born in the port city of Sunderland, England, a place steeped in industrial heritage, he grew up surrounded by the grit and pride of shipbuilding, mining, and glass blowing.
“My Dad served his time in the shipyards along the River Wear and has run his own Engineering company for nearly 40 years,” Johnny said.
“That's where I spent my evenings and weekends as a kid, working in his factory, earning money to travel and watch Sunderland.”
His career kicked off in 2003 as an apprentice electrician with a local company. After nearly a decade in various roles, he retrained and earned his offshore certifications, landing his first offshore role in 2013 on the Forties Alpha platform in the North Sea.
From there, his career took flight, working with over 20 operators across the globe, from Africa to Azerbaijan, Australia to New Zealand. With dozens of assets under his belt, his experience is as vast as the oceans he has worked above.
The offshore lifestyle is unlike any other, and for Johnny it comes down to one thing - “the people, I’m a people person."
“The facility becomes a second home, and in such a confined environment, it’s essential to be able to get along with people of all cultures, backgrounds, and differing opinions.
“It’s the camaraderie that makes each swing memorable.”
Married in 2009 to Rach, with two children, Grace and Max, he has built a family life that complements his offshore career. Since emigrating to Australia in 2019, he has seamlessly transitioned into the local offshore scene, bringing his global experience to Monadelphous.
Outside of work, he is a man of many passions. Travel, golf, and cooking top the list. He runs a thriving golf society with over 50 members across Western Australia, many of whom started as offshore colleagues and became close friends. Weekly games and travel events are a staple. At home, he is known for his love of entertaining, especially when it involves fresh, homemade pizza.
