Ramp Up

Meet Sarah Stinten

Written by Communications | 18 May 2022

We caught up with Sarah Stinten, Senior HSE Advisor for the onshore Burrup contract who told us about her role and why she loves the lifestyle in Karratha.

I’ve been with Monadelphous from the beginning of the Woodside contract, jumping on board back in early 2013. I look after the Karratha Gas Plant, Pluto and King Bay Supply Facility.

As part of the safety team onsite I have quite a dynamic role, working within an operational facility to look after the health and safety of our people. This involves providing education, time in the field and supporting from frontline operations to the leadership team onsite. The focus on Process Safety requires continual learning and working with various trades and Supervisors to ensure we are mitigating risk to ensure everyone is safe on site.

My husband and I have lived in Karratha for nearly 13 years now. Over this time, we’ve got married, had two kids and continue to happily live here.

Initially we came to Karratha for work with a one-year, two-year and then five-year plan! But we’ve stayed because we love being part of the local community. You can walk around any corner and you’ve got friends that become family. The schools are wonderful and there is just such a great a community feel that I love for our little family.

It is also the little things like going to the local coffee van in the morning where they know your name and order and ask how the family is because they have seen the kids grow.

I love all things fitness and being involved in team / community sport. In the summer months we are involved in Karratha Water Polo Association – where else would you rather be in a Pilbara Summer?!

In the winter, its netball. Additionally, my husband and I both love cross-fit, so are members of the local cross fit gym ‘Impact 6714’ which is an amazing community – a big family!

We have two young boys, three and six, who are now at the age where they are wanting to be involved in local sports, so we are branching out into football, basketball and Nippers at the local surf club. We pretty much love to be involved in anything the city and local community has to offer.

We are very happy living and working in Karratha with no plans to leave at this stage. I want to contribute to the continued success of our onshore contract, working alongside our Monos team and the client.

Monadelphous have also been awesome to work for. We have a great team, who have supported myself and my family.

We are very much locals now. My boys have been born into the lifestyle and thoroughly enjoy the fishing and island life!  I think it would now be hard to get them down to a cooler climate where the fish are smaller. It’s Great to be a part of it all up here!
