This year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly, recognised five decades of NAIDOC celebrations and the people and communities whose leadership, resilience and advocacy have shaped the journey. In Perth, our people came together to mark the beginning of NAIDOC Week with a Welcome to Country and morning tea led by Noongar Elder, Danny Ford and his son Jonathan. Throughout the week, we were proud to once again display Aboriginal artworks from Kalgoorlie-based Bush Blossom Art Gallery, showcasing Aboriginal storytelling and culture within the office. The Melchor team hosted a family focused morning with a Welcome to Country by Whadjuk Ballardong Elder, Aunty Robyn Collard, along with cultural dance and didgeridoo performances by Midn Marr Dreaming and Tryse Rioli. Everyone got involved in the day, with a Noongar language lesson with Rosemary Walley, and cookie decorating for the kids. Over in Brisbane, we gathered for a morning tea and Welcome to Country by Refiti Tovi, a proud Turrbal woman, and a didgeridoo performance by Goma Conlon, a proud descendant of the Wakka Wakka, Kabi Kabi, Koa and Kullilli Nations. Their contributions created a meaningful celebration that honoured the Turrbal and Yuggera People, the Traditional Custodians of the Brisbane region. In the Pilbara, our teams supported community events across the region. In Roebourne, we hosted a BBQ at the Warramarlu Markets and attended the City of Karratha's flag-raising ceremony and the NAIDOC Awards at the Rio Tinto Dampier Training Centre. Up in Darwin, we were joined by customer, INPEX, and procurement partners at the Darwin Services Club to celebrate the local launch of Monadelphous' third Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan 2026-2029. Throughout the week, our team members were excited to be part of the Darwin NAIDOC March and NAIDOC Ball, celebrating alongside community members and connecting with the Darwin community. Across the country, more than 120 people joined online or in person for a Lunch and Learn with Jayden Boundry, a proud Wadjak, Balardong, Yued, Wilman Noongar and Badimaya Yamatji man with strong family connections to much of the Southwest of WA. Through stories of culture and Country, Jayden shared insights into Aboriginal history, the importance of language, and the cultural significance of the wider Perth area. As a commitment in our Stretch RAP, celebrating NAIDOC is one of the ways we learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and strengthen connections to Country and culture. Supported by our leaders and local partners, we were pleased to see Monadelphous teams and individuals get involved in their local events and cultural activities, recognising the significance of NAIDOC Week within the communities where they live and work.
