Phil's journey to superintendent

Written by Communications | 1 Dec 2023

Meet Phil Scott, an instrument electrical fitter who embarked on his journey with Monadelphous in 2008 after completing his apprenticeship.

Fast forward 15 years to today, where Phil landed a role as a Superintendent on the Goodwyn Alpha offshore platform, which he said was a significant milestone in his career.

“I considered being an engineer initially but felt I wasn’t ready for the university commitment, so I opted for a TAFE diploma, which led me to explore apprenticeships,” Phil said.

“It was fortunate timing that I finished my apprenticeship at the same time Monos started with BP in Kwinana, so that was my first job. I came on as an electrical tradesman and did that for two to three years.”

Since then, Phil has taken on various roles within the business, progressing through the ranks as a leading hand and eventually to a supervisory position.

“The progression I’ve experienced at Monadelphous has been a real highlight and I think it sends a message to others that there’s a pathway for those who want to advance within the company,” he added.

“I’ve also had the privilege to work on numerous projects from start to finish, and each of these projects brought its own set of highlights and challenges, all of which have been invaluable lessons along the way.”

With the company’s significant growth in the energy sector over the last decade, Phil believes that his career journey has been intertwined with Monadelphous’ journey.

Phil said that the strong relationships he's built over the past 15 years have made it feel like home.

"I'm grateful for the loyalty shown by Monadelphous, especially during transition periods. It's been a rewarding journey, and I've never been tempted to leave despite the challenges," he said.

Outside of his professional life, Phil has a passion for sports coaching.

“I look after many teams for the school as both my kids play a lot of different sports; coaching is my way of giving back and being there for my kids,” he said.

“They play different sports in the winter and summer, so that keeps me on my toes all year round,” he said.

Like many others, Phil's story from apprentice to superintendent is a great example of the opportunities available for those who seek to advance their careers within the business.
