Monadelphous recently completed its work with Rio Tinto’s Gove operations in the Northern Territory, following a successful ongoing partnership supporting shutdown and project works at the site over six years.
In 2020, Rio Tinto approached Monadelphous for support on a critical shutdown that was being affected by COVID-19 travel restrictions and logistical challenges during the global pandemic.
After partnering with a preferred access services contractor, plus some creative problem solving (that also included chartering a private plane!), the team were able to complete the shutdown successfully and safely.
The strength of that initial response led to Monadelphous securing all future shutdowns at Gove, as well as a range of sizeable project works over the six-year period.
"Our work at Gove was an example of our ability to mobilise a scaled and skilled workforce, while delivering on what we promise to our customer," Pete Davis, Project Director said.
“The contract also played an important role in laying the foundations for our Darwin branch, contributing to Monadelphous securing our work with INPEX ILNG and BW Opal, as well as supporting future opportunities in the region.
“Special thanks to Rick (Doyle) and John (Ledo) for establishing and delivering the Gove work over the first 3 years, and subsequently to Bob (Howieson) for taking over the reins and keeping the momentum going.”
During their time at Gove, the team completed 24 shutdowns and over 250,000 hours without a single recordable injury, a significant achievement given the nature of the work and the mobilisation of a largely casual workforce for short, intensive shutdown periods.
Although our operations at Gove have come to a close, this contract laid the foundation for Monadelphous to develop and grow our footprint across the Northern Territory.
