Embarking on a journey of engineering exploration, Tait Jeffries joined the Monadelphous Vacation Program, an experience that came highly recommended to him.
"I got into the vacation program following the recommendation of a few mates who had completed it the previous year. They mentioned both the great culture and breadth of experiences that Monadelphous had presented them," Tait said.
Currently stationed in the Perth office, Tait is immersed in the intricacies of management procedures for subcontractors in the Energy business. His work involves delving into the complexities of how businesses interact, focusing on risk management through health, safety, and environment (HSE), industrial relations, and quality.
Reflecting on his academic journey so far, Tait's story weaves through various chapters, from a stint in the Air Force to exploring diverse fields of study, before finding his niche.
“Shortly after leaving school, I joined the Air Force as an Avionics Technician and worked on the KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transports,” he said.
“I really liked the hands-on and engineering aspects that I was exposed to during my time working at the squadrons.
“After leaving defence, I went to university, got my engineering diploma, and started studying mechatronics engineering and computer science.
“I quickly learnt, however, that programming wasn’t something I was interested in, so I switched to mechanical engineering.”
Now entering his final year at university, Tait said that he loves the vacation program and has already been exposed to a lot, before he has even gone to site.
“Everyone here is eager to help and is always friendly and accommodating. I hope to stay with Monadelphous through to the graduate program and experience even more,” he said.
“I find Mechanical Engineering such a diverse and practical field, as the topics you study are closely related to most industries.”
Beyond the professional world, Tait, a 25-year-old Busselton local, balances his passion for engineering with hobbies like downhill mountain biking and regular weightlifting sessions. Currently in the process of joining the Army Reserves as an Engineering Officer, Tait is eager to contribute part-time while maintaining his full-time civilian career as an Engineer.
For Tait, participating in Monadelphous' vacation program is more than a career move.
“With a range of opportunities and knowledgeable people, it’s a fantastic environment to be a part of as I’m learning and developing as an engineer,” he said.
