Iron ore is a serious business. With a current production capacity of 72 million tonnes per annum, our long-term customer’s mine site continues to look for ways to expand and streamline production.

Monadelphous were engaged to install and commission an iron ore pilot plant at the customer’s existing mine site. The plant will play a crucial role in testing and validating processing parameters before committing to the construction of a full-sized plant.

By successfully confirming the processing requirements on a smaller scale, the customer will be able to demonstrate the feasibility of scaling up to a larger plant.

Monadelphous’ scope was to construct a pilot plant with a processing capacity ranging from three tonnes per hour (TPH) to 75 TPH.

“We’re approaching an exciting phase of the project as it’s about to enter the commissioning stage, with all mechanical construction completed,” Project Lead, Kish explained.

“Electrical installation is almost complete, and we are ready to start turning everything on for the first time.”

While the project has had its challenges, one key hurdle was identified – transitioning technical drawings from European Union standards to Australian standards.  Monadelphous rose to the challenge and, in close collaboration with the customer, was able to address the issues and find effective solutions.

Teamwork, a core Monadelphous value, has been a key aspect of the project’s success. In fact, working with the team is a highlight for Kish.

"What I’ve enjoyed most about this project is the team. Everyone gives 100 percent, and despite the challenges, we always find time to share a laugh and strengthen our relationships." Kish said.

The pilot plant project highlights our ability to deliver comprehensive turnkey solutions for our customers, covering everything from civil and structural works to mechanical and electrical services.
