Across Karratha, Port Hedland, Tom Price and Newman, our Community and Indigenous Coordinators have been focused on something simple but important: building strong relationships with our communities.
On the business front, that has meant backing local Indigenous suppliers and helping them connect to meaningful work.
In 2025, Pilbara Indigenous business, Sherlock Contracting, was supported to deliver capability-aligned work scopes, strengthening readiness for larger opportunities ahead. Thorny Devil has now joined us as a PPE supplier, helping support our core crew while keeping spend in the Pilbara. We’ve also welcomed a number of other Indigenous businesses into our supply chain, including Waru Vehicle Hire, Miina Group, Gajawari KW, Red Rock Services and Thaama.
Community support has continued to grow in practical ways. In Roebourne, we provided in-kind support to the Waramalgu NAIDOC Markets and backed the Yarnimalgu men’s shed pop-up project, helping create safe and positive spaces for connection through the donation of two 40-foot shipping containers.
Ongoing sponsorship of the Hedland Reds Football Club, Newman Cricket Club and community initiatives such as the Town of Port Hedland fortnightly BBQ continues to keep us connected to the communities where our people live and work. In Port Hedland, new partnerships are also strengthening our local presence. Monadelphous partnered with Nih Kaartdijin Mia to support the Bounce Back 2025 event, promoting mental health awareness and resilience.
In Karratha, Monadelphous provided in-kind support through the construction of a stage for the Karratha Bikers Association Annual Father’s Day charity event, raising funds for local primary schools, while our Scaffold team also delivered the presentation stage and grandstand for the North Pilbara Football League Women’s, Reserves and League Division Grand Finals.
In Tom Price, our team contributed to the Tom Price Senior High School Valedictory Ceremony through student award sponsorship, and donated a fully functional lathe, steel rack and tooling to the Tom Price Men’s Shed. Monadelphous is also a proud multi-year sponsor of the AWARE Group, a grassroots organisation creating significant impact in the disability space through advocacy, support and knowledge, with our team recently attending their Gala fundraiser to present the Honourable Awareness Award on behalf of the business.
Employment pathways remain a major focus. Since the roles commenced, 18 new Indigenous employees have joined across the North West region, with additional candidates currently in recruitment.
We currently support three apprentices in training, two School-Based Trainees and an Indigenous female employee commencing her HSE traineeship. And in 2026, we will be opening up multiple traineeships in Business Administration, Paint and Blast, Scaffolding and Rigging.
The team has also developed a work-ready pilot program in collaboration with Pilbara Community Services, Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation and the Department of Justice, aimed at creating structured employment pathways for Aboriginal men nearing release from the Roebourne Regional Prison Workcamp.
Retention and development are equally important. The Indigenous Strong Foundations Pilot Program will enter its third iteration in 2026, building work-readiness, safety awareness, and professional capability to support long-term employment.
Ongoing mentoring, development conversations, and close collaboration with community partners are helping ensure that Indigenous employees feel supported, connected, and set up for success.
It is steady, consistent work across multiple sites and communities. While there is always more to do, the focus remains clear: strong relationships, practical support and creating opportunities that make sense locally.
