Enjoying the mine life

Not everyone loves a cold call, but when Rohan Bright received an unexpected message to join Monadelphous at FMG Cloudbreak in the Pilbara, it was the sign he needed to give mining a crack. Kept on as core crew after his first shut down, Rohan is now 12 years deep and still loving it.

“Monadelphous is a great company to work for. I’ve developed long-lasting friendships and been given many opportunities to develop within the company,” he said.

As a long running member of the team, we asked Rohan about the Monadelphous values, and he mentioned he relates most strongly to Teamwork and Safety and Wellbeing.

“I enjoy the continual development in building a high performing team. Promoting diversity and inclusiveness within our team means everyone feels welcome and enjoys working on our site.

“Embedding safety within our team is vital to our success. We promote the ‘Safe Way is the Only Way’ culture, where everyone feels empowered to speak up when there is a health or safety concern. Also, being supportive and understanding when wellbeing concerns are discussed within our team is important.”

Rohan is always looking for ways to progress the team to the next level, whether it’s through safety improvements and initiatives, training or upskilling our maintainers.

“Supporting our safety initiatives and positive recognition awards helps promote our safety culture onsite. I also make sure the team feel included with open conversations and honest feedback, so we can all progress forward together.”

Now a Superintendent, Rohan’s come a long way since his first role as a boilermaker and coded welder. Progressing in various roles in the Tom Price Project team and assisting shutdowns, he was given an opportunity to step up into the Site Superintendent role for a fixed plant maintenance contract at Tom Price.

Talking about his favourite projects throughout his career, Rohan said,

“Supervising the B2 Rom Bin Wall replacement would be a highlight. This task involved technical rigging and craneage and engineering involvement to be successfully executed to schedule.

“Developing core crews at Tom Price as well, which had its challenges at the start but transitioned into a reputable maintenance team on site.”

Looking forward, Rohan is excited to progress as a leader and be part of our continual growth here at Monadelphous.

When not at work, you’ll find Rohan spending time with family, playing golf, surfing, fishing, diving or having a beer with mates.
