Congratulations to David Harrison from our Coastal & West Pilbara Operations who was selected as our MMNW Safety Champion for February 2023.

As our monthly champion, David scooped up a certificate of thanks, a $250 gift voucher and a place on our MMNW Safety Champion honour board.

David demonstrated excellent safety leadership by ‘Being Mindful’ when performing pre-lift checks to identify that a screens compliance plate rigging configuration did not match the lifting points on the screen frame.

Further to this, he also identified that the mass on the plate (10T) did not reflect the true mass of the screen which was 11T. David did not feel comfortable with the inaccurate information and brought this to the attention of his Leading Hand and Supervisor, demonstrating ‘Speaking up’. The team then ‘Got Involved’ and developed a lifting plan to suit the configuration required to ensure that we ‘Followed Rules’ to safely lift the screen onto the truck. This is a great example of all four of our Safety Behaviour Framework themes in action and ensuring we always work the safe way.

I would also like to acknowledge Chad Dearle, Steven Wright, Simon Lanigan, Ronald Kartman, Rennie O’Neil, Rebecca Clamp, Nigel Harrison, Nathan Gough, Jolene Butler and the RTIO Marine Maintenance team for their ongoing commitment to safety as our other MMNW Safety Champion nominees for February.

Whilst at it, I would also like to acknowledge Jacinta Chamberlain for her leadership in being a key driver of this program across MMNW by consistently recognising her team members working the safe way.

We encourage everyone to jump onto the nomination platform which can be found on the Monator platform or by clicking on this link  ‘Delivering the Safe Way in Action’ e-form.
