Safety Champion of the month - October

Written by Communications | 31 Oct 2022

This month we launched a Safety Champion Reward and Recognition program to recognise and drive positive behaviours in line with our Delivering the Safe Way framework.

We have now announced our first recipient of our Mining and Minerals North West Region Safety Champion award – congratulations to Supervisor Levi Knight from our East Pilbara Operations.

Levi demonstrated excellent safety leadership by ‘Being Mindful’ when he identified an unlocked gate surrounding an open penetration at height, ‘Speaking Up to raise the hazard to the area owner and ‘Getting Involved’ to ensure that the hazard was controlled before leaving the area.

HSE Lead Dion Fleay congratulated Levi on being the inaugural winner of the award.

“What makes this safety intervention of particular importance is that Levi used learnings from a previous event at Mining Area C to help with his risk awareness and management and to ensure the hazard was effectively controlled,” he said.

“Even though this was not a Monadelphous work environment, these examples help us demonstrate to both our people and our customers that we live our safety values.”

This well-deserved award win places Levi on the MMNW Safety Champion honour board.

Well done to our other MMNW Safety Champion nominees, Kayne Blackie, James Shadbolt and Warrick Terry for their ongoing commitment to safety. Each of the nominees demonstrated ‘Delivering the Safe Way’ behaviours that we value which made picking a winner a very hard task!
