Installing kilometres of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline is no small feat, with our Port & East Pilbara team rising to the challenge of installing 3.5km of HDPE piping in the Mt. Whaleback Pit.
There was one catch - the mine remained active and operational during the installation.
The project was designed to provide the customer’s mining team with a water supply for its fleet of 164KL CAT Water Carts in the Mt Whaleback Pit. In addition to installing the HDPE pipeline, our team installed:
We spoke to Project Manager, Mitch about some of the more unique elements of the project.
“Significant elevation changes required a drone crew from Tasmania and the use of a drone to carry a rope approximately 300 metres down the pit walls to help the installation of the pipe into the pit,” Mitch said.
“This project was the first I've worked on in an active mining pit and the largest HDPE project I've worked on.”
The production needs of the mine took priority over pipeline installation operations, making for highly dynamic scheduling requirements and the need for flexibility from our team.
The successful delivery of this project has effectively positioned Monadelphous for future opportunities of a similar scope.
