I was delighted to present the 64th M&IS Teamwork Baton to the Mining and Minerals North-West team who have recently had a huge win, with the award of a $300 million five-year maintenance services contract with our longstanding customer Rio Tinto.

The tender itself was submitted in 2024, and what followed were some of the longest negotiations in M&IS history required to lock it in. Negotiations commenced in early 2025, with the contract signed just before Christmas the same year.

Behind this contract award is years of relationship building with the customer from across the whole MMNW Coastal and West Pilbara team, and their commitment to demonstrating our value proposition: We rise to the challenge and deliver – the right way.

We consistently secure work backed by our strong customer relationships as well as our reputation for reliable delivery of complex work. Teamwork is a huge contributor to this success – across the MMNW business the tendering, commercial and support teams work collaboratively with operations to position our bids to meet the customer’s expectations and get the contract across the line.

This contract award highlights the strength of our relationship with Rio Tinto, as we retained existing work in Cape Lambert and Dampier, while picking up additional scopes at the West Pilbara inland mines. We are also well positioned to pick up further additional scope as part of this contract, and that comes down to the trust we have built with our customer.

Congratulations to everyone on the MMNW team involved in securing this work and the teamwork behind the scenes that goes into winning tenders and maintaining great customer relationships.
